Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's fell to NJIT for the second time this season, falling 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-26) Tuesday night in the Yanitelli Center.
Marlena Budna led the Peacocks with 6 kills, and Amanda Colombo followed with 5 kills, while Libero, Carolina Ruiz had a team-high 16 digs.
Leaders for the Highlanders were Weronika Wezik with 14 kills, Anna Rodrigues posted 37 assists and 10 digs, Adriana Nieto added 4 assist and a team high of 18 digs.
The first set was a rough start as the Peacocks were forced into an early timeout at 2-6. Saint Peter's comeback attempt came up short as the Highlanders closed out the set 25-14.
The Peacocks got down early in the second set as they trailed NJIT 10-15. Saint Peter's would eventually tie the set at 22-22, before taking the reigns on a kill by Budna, to put Saint Peter's ahead 23-22. KIlls by Wiezik evened the score at 23-23. A timeout by Saint Peter's was called, but wasn't enough to rise above NJIT losing the set 25-23.
The third set started off strong as the two teams battled with an early score of 8-8. NJIT jumped out with a 5-point run as Saint Peters fell behind 8-12. The Peacocks fought to catch up, but NJIT got the best of them as they won the set 25-16.
Next up, the Peacocks will play at Canisius, Saturday Sep.24th then at Niagara on the 25th.
