Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ - Women's basketball dropped its home contest to Rider, 56-43, Thursday night in the Yanitelli Center. Talah Hughes led the Peacocks with 12 points. Saint Peter's drops to an overall record of 3-15 and 2-7 in the MAAC.
"Defensively, we did a pretty good job holding them under their scoring average," said assistant coach Phyllis Mangina. "Offensively we were having a hard time making shots."
The Peacocks rallied with the Broncs in the first quarter tying the score twice at 2 and 4 before ending the quarter one point behind at, 12-11.
In the second quarter the Broncs jumped to a 10 point lead, 24-14 after limiting the Peacocks to score three points. The Peacocks had a hard time coming back as they only posted four more points before ending the half 30-17.
After the break the Broncs reached a 21 point lead (40-19), almost halfway through the quarter. Rider continued with a strong lead ending the third quarter 41-24.
With Rider in the lead, the Peacocks continued to play hard and added 19 points to the board. The Peacocks fought to come back but the Broncs sealed the win 56-43.
Next up the Peacocks will meet the Manhattan Jaspers on Sunday afternoon in the Yanitelli Center. Tipoff is scheduled to start at 2pm.
