JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's baseball head coach Danny Ramirez has announced the addition of Ron Hayward to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.
"I am very excited to announce the addition of Ron to the baseball staff here at Saint Peter's," said Ramirez. "Ron is a well respected and experienced coach from the area and his connections in the area will be a great asset to the program. I am looking forward to what he will bring to the coaching staff."
Hayward has tons of baseball experience as a player and coach. During his playing days, he was All-County, All-State and All-American honorable mention in high school at Marist in Bayonne. He was drafted during the 2000 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft by the Reds out of College. A native of Jersey City, Hayward spent the previous 12 seasons as a high school head coach at his alma mater, Marist High School (10 years) and at St. Anthony (two years). During that time, he was a two-time Coach of the Year (2012 and 2015)

Hayward guided Marist High School to two HCIAA county championships in 2012 and 2015. During his tenure at Marist, he also won NJSIAA Sectional and Parochial B State Championships in 2012. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, his team finished with a state and regional ranking of No. 4 by MSG and ranked in the top 20 by the Star Ledger. Hayward finished as the winningest coach with over 200 wins at Marist. He also won two RBI MLB national titles in the summer of 2012 and 2014 while coaching the Jackie Robinson U18 RBI team. From 2012 to 2014 Hayward had the opportunity to work for the Bobby Valentine Foundation as a Field Instructor/BP Throwing Coach.
Three players that have been coached by Hayward were selected in the MLB Draft and a fourth signed as a free agent. In addition to the four players, he has had over 17 players sign a Division I scholarship to play NCAA collegiate baseball out of Marist.
Hayward also served as a high school athletic director for five combined years at Marist High School (three years) and at St. Anthony (two years) under legendary hall of fame head coach Bob Hurley. He also taught physical education for eight years at Marist High School.
Off the baseball field, Hayward volunteers his time with RBI baseball and inner city kids, developing them into quality people and great baseball players.
Hayward and his wife Marjorie currently reside in Old Bridge, New Jersey. They have two children, Elliott and Isabella.
