Igal Oren Earns Silver in the Men's 100-Breaststroke at the 2017 MAAC LifeStorage Championships

BUFFALO, NY – Senior Igal Oren (Jersey City, NJ/Ort Kiryar Bialik) earned a silver medal in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 55.97, picking up the first silver for the Peacocks at the championships. The Saint Peter's men's and women’s swimming and diving teams completed day three of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) LifeStorage Swimming & Diving Championships in Buffalo, NY at the Burt Flickenger Center at Erie Community College. The men’s team jumped up a spot after day two moving into seventh place with 166 points while the women’s team finished day three in 10th place with 44 points.

The men’s team continued their strong showing at the meet, earning as many points in day three as they earned in day one and two combined (83 points). In addition to Oren’s second place finish, Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, NJ/Saint Joseph) placed fourth in the 1000-freestyle in a time of 9:29.44, while Daniel Gayetsky (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) finished in 10th place with a time of 9:44.50. Thomas Calloni (Milan, Italy/Saint Peter's Prep) posted a 1:42.63 in the 200-freestyle, earning a 10th place finish. Freshman Michael Spark (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) finished 10th in the 100-backstroke posting a 52:62 finishing time. The men’s relay team of Spark, Oren, Riepe, and Daniel Betts (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) ended night three placing fourth in the 400-medley relay posting a time of 3:25.00.

Karen Castaneda (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge High School) continued to lead the women’s unit as she earned a ninth place finish in the 200-freestyle with a 1:56.81 time. Castaneda along with Alexandria Thomas (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), Angel Gabinete (Davao City, Philippines/Saint Dominic Academy), and Kamila Pawka finished their 400-medley relay in a time of 4:57.94 adding 14 points to the team total. 

The final day of action is Saturday with prelims in the morning beginning at 10a.m followed by the finals, which start at 6p.m.
