JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to La Salle University. The result marks their fifth straight loss, which drops them to a record of 1-8. The Saint Peter's University women's team lost a hard fought match to La Salle University by a score of 4-3. Their record drops to 1-10.
Men's Results – At No. 1 doubles Jorge Rodriguez and Andres-Sebastian Rojas lost 6-4 to Francesco Mowrey and Tomas Christian. Jon Paredes and Ivan Knezevic fell to Brian Balico and Joe DiOrio 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. In the last doubles flight, Douglas Nover and Gabriel Russotto dropped a 6-2 match to Braden Ward and Patrick Pascual. In singles, Gabriel Russotto was the lone victor, pulling out a 1-6, 6-2, [11]-[9] scoreline against Patrick Pascual. Jorge Rodriguez lost 6-1, 6-1 to Francesco Mowrey. Andres-Sebastian Rojas fell to Brian Balico 6-2, 6-2. Ivan Knezevic had the next closest match, falling to Joe DiOrio in a first set tiebreak 7-6(5), 6-2. Douglas Nover 6-2, 6-0 to Tomas Christian. Cuong Lam was defeated by Braden Ward 6-1, 6-0.
Women's Results - The doubles point was earned by La Salle University. Lucia Radovic and Malieva Hedberg were the only winners on doubles court at No. 1 against Brittany Poje and Ali Snyder, 6-2. At No. 2, Elena Melian Puigventos and Claudia Hellman fell 6-2 to Jade Smith and Ally Santerelli. Aidah Muhammad and Azuri Hughes lost a close one, 6-4, at No. 3 against Maansi Malhotra and Jayla Smith. The Peacocks fought hard to make a comeback in singles gathering three points on the board. No. 1 singles Lucia Radovic came back from a set down against Brittany Poje to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Claudia Hellman, No. 4 singles weathered the storm against Jayla Smith and won 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 6, Christian Resurreccion won in a match tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-6(5), [10]-[7], because La Salle had already won the match by then. Elena Melian Puigventos, fell at No. 2 singles to Ali Snyder 6-1, 6-0. No. 3, Malieva Hedberg, lost 6-4, 6-1, to Ally Santerelli. Stephanie Falcon, No. 5, won the second set but ended up losing a tough match against Jade Smith, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6.
Up Next - The men's team return to the court in a week at the Milford Indoor courts in Connecticut against Sacred Heart University at 2pm. The women have the week off and return for a 1pm home match against St. Francis College Brooklyn on March 4. That match is in conjunction with the men's match against the same school.
