FAIRFIELD, CT - Saint Peter's women's basketball fell to the Fairfield Stags 50-38 Sunday afternoon in the Alumni Hall. Junior, Talah Hughes, led the Peacocks with 14 points and both Zoe Pero and Janelle Mullen added eight points each. Saint Peter's overall record drops to 3-19 and 2-11 in the MAAC.
The Peacocks got off to a good start in the first quarter as they went point for point ending the quarter in a 10-10 tie.
The Stags broke the tie with two points to start the second quarter. Saint Peter's scored two points with 1:36 minutes left. The Stags jumped to a four point lead, 16-12, just before Alyssa Velles knocked two free throws down, putting the Peacocks two points behind the Stags at 16-14. After a foul by Saint Peter's, Fairfield posted two more points answered by a jump shot by Hughes making the score 18-16 going into halftime.
After halftime the Stags jumped to a six point lead at 22-16 in the first few minutes of the third quarter. The Peacocks plugged away to close in on Fairfield cutting to a six point deficit at 24-18, to falling behind one point at 28-27. Fairfield pulled away from the Peacocks ending the quarter 34-27.
Janelle Mullen opened up the Fourth quarter with a jump shot adding to the score, 34-29. Fairfield posted five points leading the Peacocks by 10 points 39-29. The Peacocks were unable to catch the Stags and scored only nine more points for the rest of the quarter falling to Fairfield 50-38.
Kelsey Carey led the Stags with 15 points and seven rebounds while Casey Smith added 14 points.
Next up the Peacocks will Host hOURglass rival, Monmouth University on February 10 in the Yanitelli Center. Tipoff is scheduled to start at 7pm.
