OPENING PITCH
The Saint Peter's softball team will face Lafayette in a doubleheader match-up on
Tuesday afternoon. The first game will start at 3pm and the second will start at 5pm at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex in Easton, PA.
WORD ON THE LEOPARDS
The Leopards will enter Tuesday's game with an overall record of 1-10. Lafayette dropped their last game to Bucknell 8-1 on March 26. Kristyn Marinelli scored the Leopards only run of the game. Marinelli has started nine games as the pitcher with a total of 11 strikeouts this season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks gained their first win over Hartford 10-1. Led by starting pitcher, Sydney Ramsey, who pitched a complete game only giving up three hits and striking out seven batters in the winning effort. Hutchins' three-run homer in the top of the of a four-run Peacock third inning, helped break a 1-1 tie and extended the Peacock lead to 5-1. The Peacocks added three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the contest out of reach. Six different Peacocks recorded a RBI led by Hutchins' three.
WELCOME BACK
Saint Peter's softball team will return 10 players including four seniors, (Samantha Storms, Alyssa Ruiz, Crystal Carlucci,Candace Koch) two juniors, (Nicole Feoli, Chamar Sanchez), and four sophomores, (Schieler Collins, Harley Connors, Tiffani Lambert, Sydney Ramsey).
ROOKIES
The Peacocks welcome five freshmen to the team Kathleen Donovan (Abington, NJ), Alina Guevara (Agoura Hills, CA), Theamaris Ramirez (Homestead, FL),Brianna Hutchinson (Lebanon,OH) and Georgia Verrastro (Scott Township, PA).
COACHING STAFF
Chris Stelma begins his first season at the helm of Saint Peter's. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Division III, William Paterson University in New Jersey during the 2016 season. Prior to joining William Paterson, he was the owner of Fielder's Choice Baseball/Kaboom Softball in Andover, where he coordinates training, league play, tournaments and facilities, and served as the head coach of the U18 Showcase baseball and softball teams. Stelma was the baseball head coach at his alma mater, County College of Morris during the fall of 2007.
Stelma earned a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Rhode Island in 2006. While at URI, Stelma was a member of the baseball team where he played two seasons at shortstop for the Rams, making 31 starts and appearing in over 40 games. Prior to transferring to URI, Stelma began his collegiate career at County College of Morris where he played for current Saint Peter's assistant coach Ed Moskal in 2003. He was named All-Region and All-Garden State Conference at County College of Morris and ranked in the top 15 among JUCO hitters in 2003.
