Softball Drops Series to MAAC Competitor Marist

JERSEY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Marist Saturday evening at the Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks fell 9-5 in the first game and 14-2 in the second. The Peacock's overall record drops to 3-29 and their MAAC record is 1-10.

"They are truly dedicated to turning our program in the right direction and are noticeably on their way to becoming a dominate team," said head coach Chris Stelma.

Game 1

Saint Peter's started Alyssa Ruiz who pitched 6.1 innings. At bat, Alina Guevara and Shamar Sanchez led with doubles while five other players tallied an RBI each.


In the top of the second the Red Foxes scored a run followed by another run in the top of the third and the sixth leading the Peacocks 3-0.


In the bottom of the sixth, Nicole Feoli singled pushing Sanchez to third and Georgia Verrastro scored, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Brianna Hutchinson singled advancing Feoli to second allowing Sanchez to score, making it 3-2. Sam Storms singled leading to an RBI, advancing Feoli home, which tied the game at 3-3. While bases were loaded Tiffany Ramsey got hit by a pitch which sent Storms to across home, giving the Peacocks a 4-3 lead. Verrastro then singled to advance Schieler Collins to second and Guevara to third pushing Candice Koch home. The Peacocks led the Red Foxes 5-3.

In the final inning, Marist jumped back in the lead with six runs to win the game 9-5.

Game 2

Tiffany Lambert pitched three inning along with two strikeouts and allowed five hits. Sam Storms led the squad with two RBI's including a home run.


Marist jumped to the Lead to score six runs. In the bottom of the first, Storms hit a homer for two RBI's cutting the deficit to 6-2. 


The Peacocks were unable to score anymore runs as Marist scored eight  more runs to take the lead and win at 14-2.


Next upThe Peacocks will host Monmouth in a doubleheader matchup on April 29th. The first game will start promptly at 1pm.
