AUSTIN, TX – The Saint Peter's University golf team concluded the NCAA Austin Regional on Wednesday. The Peacocks finished the three-day event in 14th place after posting rounds of 319, 316, and 309 finishing with a score of 944. Oklahoma State claimed the regional crown with a three-round score of 839, while regional host Texas finished second with a tournament score of 841.
Ryan Rodriguez (Highland Mill, NY/Cornwall Central) finished as the lowest scoring Peacock with a 230 score over the three-day event, shooting a 79 on the final day. Danny Lapp (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) finished three strokes behind Rodriguez with a 233, finishing up his final and best round of the event with a 74. David Powers (Glen Spey, NY/Eldred) shot a Peacock-regional best, 71 and finished his regional with a total of 238. Senior Dominic Diaz (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) closed out his career at Saint Peter's with a regional total of 245, after he shot an 85 on day-three. Mike Winter (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame) closed out the three-day regional shooting an 86 and 256 total.
The men's golf team concluded its 2016-17 campaign with the programs third trip to the NCAA Division I Regional in the last four years. The Peacocks won the Peacock Invitational, posting a 292 score in the one round event. Rodriguez led the way for the Peacocks by finishing as the top individual finisher with a tournament low score of 70 (-2). The squad won its third MAAC title in program history, all coming within the past four years, as the team came back from seven strokes behind in the final round to claim the team title. Winter was the individual top finisher, after he shot a 220 (+4), winning the McLeod Trophy for the Most Outstanding Golfer (MVP) and becoming only the second Peacock ever to earn the top individual honors at the tournament joining first year head coach Nick Dilio as the only other player to do so. Dilio became the second Saint Peter's head coach to ever win MAAC Coach of the Year honors, joining his former coach and three-time Coach of the Year winner Peter Falloon (2012, 2014, and 2015). Dilio also became the first person in MAAC history to win both the McLeod Trophy as a player and the Coach of the Year trophy as a head coach.
