Men's Swim Team Defeats Lafayette in Home Opener

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The swim teams hosted Lafayette College for their 2018 home opener on Tuesday night. The men's team knocked off the Leopards, 151-127, improving their record to 6-2 on the season. The women's team came up short to a tough Leopard team, falling 161-70.

"I am really happy with how we swam as a whole in this meet," said head coach Mark Kretzer. "We came off a really tough week of training, doing two practices a day most days during our winter break. Combining that with the tough competition we were up against, we all knew this would be a challenge to come away with a win. We are in a great place as a team right now and hope to carry this momentum into our meets this coming weekend."

"Freshman Andrew Galarza came away with three individual victories, and one in the relay," added Kretzer. "He has been the workhorse for our team all season, doing all of the most difficult events in the lineup."

"On the women's side, senior Karen Castaneda came away with a great individual win in the 500 freestyle, and narrowly missed a second win in the 200 freestyle," said Kretzer. "I am excited to see where the women's team will end our season when we finally get them rested and feeling strong in competition in mid-February."

The men's and women's swim teams return to the pool on Saturday, January 20, when the squads head to hOURglass Rival, Monmouth for a MAAC meet. The men will take on Monmouth only, while the women will face Monmouth and LIU Brooklyn. First dive is set for 1 p.m.
