JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's men's tennis team fell to Saint Joseph's University, 5-2, in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center Bubble on Sunday. Their record drops to 2-7 overall on the season.
Doubles Results - All of the matches were close and they all ended 6-4; the Peacocks went 1-2 in the matches dropping the tandem point. No. 1, Hector Andres Jacome and Piotr Sowinski prevailed over Tim Stierle and Beekman Schaeffer. John Oxner and Ignacio Tintore fell to Dan Tan and Andre Fick at No. 2. No. 3, Ivan Knezevic and Douglas Nover, lost to Peter Dewitt and Johnnie Massart.
Singles Results - The Peacocks went 2-4 in singles play. No. 2, Piotr Sowinski, and No. 6, Ivan Knezevic, were the winners of the day; Sowinski defeated Dewitt, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) and Knezevic defeated Luis Janko, 6-4, 7-6(5). Jacome was defeated by Stierle, 7-5, 6-3. Oxner fought hard but ultimately lost a close one in the third to Fick, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Tintore battled back in the second but Tan won in the end, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Igor Khvorostian lost to Massart at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3.
Up Next - The men's tennis team will have their fourth home match in five days and third consecutive day when they host Hofstra University on Monday, February 19 at 12 p.m. in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center Bubble. This match will be played alongside the women's tennis team.
