Hofstra Tops Men's and Women's Tennis on Monday

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's men's and women's tennis teams went winless against Hofstra University at home on Monday, February 19. The men's team fell 4-3 and their overall team record falls to 2-8 while the women's team fell 7-0 and their overall team record falls to 0-11.

 

Men's Results - Piotr Sowinski was the lone winner for the Peacocks at No. 2. He defeated Jan Leithner 6-4, 6-4. The Peacocks won No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles by default. Saint Peter's lost the remaining doubles matches by scores of 7-6(3) and 7-5 at No. 1 and 2, respectively. Hector Andres Jacome and Piotr Sowinski fell at the top spot to Marcus Smith and Leithner while John Oxner and Ivan Knezevic lost to Coco Haener and Nick Silvestri at No. 2. Jacome fell to Smith at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Oxner fell to Haener 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3. Ignacio Tintore ran out of gas and succumbed to Silvestri at No. 4, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.

 

Women's Results - No Peacocks were able to win more than two games in any match. Stephanie Falcon and Azuri Hughes lost to Jasmine King and Odessa Stork, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. Aidah Muhammad and Marta Ortega lost to Alejandra Ruffini and Ronia Dolabany at No. 2, 6-1. Rachel Valentine and Jennifer Guilherme won no games at No. 3 against Ana Canahuate-Torres and Meheq Khokhar. King and Dolabany were victorious over Falcon at No. 1 and Guilherme at No. 6 by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. Hughes lost no Ruffini 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Muhammad and Valentine fell by identical scores of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and 5 against Stork and Khokhar, respectively. Ortega was dropped by Canahuate-Torres at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1.


Up Next - The men's team ends their home stretch by going to McCarren Park in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, February 24 for an early morning 9 a.m. match against St. Francis Brooklyn. The women's team remains home for a combined dual match with the men's team against La Salle on Sunday, February 25. First serve is set to be hit at noon.
