Box Score BALTIMORE, MD - The Saint Peter's softball team fell to tournament hosts, UMBC 7-3 on the first day of the UMBC Retriever Classic.
"We played a tough game today," said head coach
Chris Stelma. "We had a good outing out of
Sydney Ramsey. We played real good softball, UMBC got a few key hits. We will be back at it tomorrow."
The Peacocks scored their first run in the top of the second after
Alina Guevara homered to left center field. In the bottom of the second UMBC scored and tied the game at 1-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Peacocks regained the lead over UMBC, going up 3-1.
Georgia Verrastro reached on a throwing error by UMBC's third base, with the bases loaded, allowing
Barbara Verrastro and
Brianna Hutchinson to score the unearned runs for the lead.
UMBC quickly tied the game in the bottom of the fifth at 3-3. The Retrievers went on to score four unanswered runs, winning the game 7-3.

The Peacocks will continue play in the UMBC Retriever Classic on Sunday, March 25. The team will face Binghamton at 9 a.m. and have a chance at redemption against UMBC at 1:30 p.m.
