JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's men's tennis team garnered its first conference victory and broke a 13-game MAAC losing streak on Tuesday as the team swept conference hOURglass rival Rider at Lincoln Park. The team's record improves to 3-19 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Doubles Results - The Peacocks won all of matches with No. 3 being a win by default as Rider only suited up five players. Piotr Sowinski and John Oxner defeated Lysander Payano Almonte and Griffin Clark, 6-3, at No. 1. Hector Andres Jacome and Ignacio Tintore won a battle at No. 2, 7-6(3), against Javier Melendez and Diego Delgado.
Singles Results - Jacome defeated Payano Almonte at No. 1 by identical set scores of 6-1. No. 2, Sowinski, and No. 3, Oxner, bounced back after losing the first set against Melendez and Delgado, respectively. Sowinski won 2-6, 6-3, [10]-[7] and Oxner won 3-6, 6-1, [10]-[8]. Tintore was victorious over Clark, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4. Jonathan Paredes celebrated a victory over Brian Villareal, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5. No. 6 was defaulted by the Broncs.
Stats Don't Lie - The men's tennis team has been undefeated (3-0) when they start the match 1-0 after winning the doubles tandem point. The Peacocks have swept when they have won their matches this season (Lafayette, Coppin State, and Rider).
Up Next - The men's tennis team will return for their final match on Friday, April 27, when they host Baruch College. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bayonne Park.
