EDISON, NJ – Georgia Verrastro of the Saint Peter's softball team has been named as the Pepsi Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Female Student-Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office today.
Verrastro served as the team captain and played in 42 games for the Peacocks in 2018 as a catcher. She drew a team-best, 41 walks and ranked third in both runs scored and stolen bases. Verrastro's hard work and dedication, led to her winning the Female Iron Peacock award at the annual Student-Athlete Awards Banquet. In the classroom, she boasted the highest grade point average on her squad with a GPA above a 3.9, leading to a spot on the MAAC All-Academic team.
This summer, Verrastro has been doing volunteer work with Penn State THON, an organization that raises money for children with pediatric cancer, and she will also be volunteering at the third annual Shane Rivenburgh Memorial Big Ball Classic in July, an event in memory of a local baseball star who was killed in a motorcycle accident in April 2016.
