Baseball Splits Twin Bill with Rival Rider on Sunday

After dropping game one, the Peacocks held off the Broncs 7-6 in game two

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader with hOURglass Rival Rider. The Peacocks fell 14-3 (seven innings) in the first game, before holding off Rider's ninth inning rally with a 7-6 victory in game two.
 
Game 1 Notes
  • Rider jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Saint Peter's in the second inning of the game behind four hits and a pair of errors by the Peacocks' defense.
  • After falling behind 6-0, Saint Peter's cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third inning.
  • The Peacocks loaded the bases with one out when Edwin Feliciano singled to right field to bring home the Peacocks' first run, Chris Marquart, from third.
  • With the bases still loaded, Hunter Mason hit a two-run double to left center, brining in Andrew Connor and Nicholas Sciubba before Feliciano was thrown out at home.
  • Rider would respond, posting a seven-run inning in the top of the fourth and by adding one more run in the sixth to take a 14-3 win in game one.
 
Game 2 Notes
  • Rider scored one run in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the home half of the first, with two outs, Jared Paladino hit an RBI single to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Two batters later with the bases loaded, the Peacocks took a 2-1 lead after Connor was walked to bring home Peter Ferony.
  • Starting Peacock pitcher, John Gavura (1-1) gave up zero hits in the second and third innings to keep the 2-1 lead intact.
  • Rider knotted the game in the top of the fourth at 2-2.
  • With the score deadlocked at 2-2 entering the seventh, Rider added two runs to retake the lead over Saint Peter's, 4-2.
  • The Peacocks quickly answered the challenge in the bottom half of the inning.
  • After the first two batters failed to reach base, the next two reached on a walk (Mason) and a single (Peter Ferony).
  • Paladino then hit a RBI single to center field which sent Mason home from second base and advanced Ferony to second.
  • Jared Quintero hit the go-ahead double to center field, scoring both Ferony and Paladino to put the Peacocks up 5-4 before the inning ended.
  • Reliever, Anthony Ramos (1-0) retired the side in the eighth by striking out the final two batters of the inning.
  • With a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, Mason added the much-needed insurance runs when he doubled to center field for two RBIs which extended the Saint Peter's lead to 7-4.
  • In the final inning, Rider rallied with two runs to cut the Peacock lead to 7-6 with just one out and the game-tying run on second base.
  • Feliciano took the mound from center field and in the save situation retired the next two batters to preserve the 7-6 win for the Peacocks.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Five Peacocks posted one hit each in the first game (Feliciano, Mason, Quintero, Marquart, and Connor).
  • Mason led the Peacocks with two RBI while Feliciano posted one RBI.
  • Sciubba, Marquart, and Connor each scored one run in the opening game.
  • In game two, Ramos earned his first career win in 2.0 innings pitched, striking out two.
  • Paladino went a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game, hitting three singles and a double.
