Baseball Routs Iona on Senior Day

The Peacock scored a season-best 12 runs in the win

JERSEY CITY, NJ – In the final game of the regular season, the Saint Peter's baseball team defeated Iona College in a 12-7 victory.
 
Game Notes
  • Iona scored five runs in the opening inning to take a 5-0 lead over Saint Peter's.
  • The Peacocks responded with a three hit, four run-inning in the home half of the inning.
  • The four-run rally was sparked by a leadoff double from Andrew Connor.
  • Edwin Feliciano followed up with a single up the middle and then an error by the center fielder allowed Connor to score the Peacocks first run.
  • Two batters later, with two on, Jared Paladino hit his second home run of the season to deep left field, putting the Peacocks behind 5-4.
  • Saint Peter's defense forced a 1-2-3 inning in the second, but didn't score in the bottom half of the frame, leaving the score locked at 5-4.
  • The Gaels added two runs in the third to extend their lead over the Peacocks to 7-4.
  • Again, Saint Peter's found an answer in the bottom of the inning.
  • Feliciano led off with a single and then Ferony with a walk, to set up Paladino for an RBI single that scored Feliciano.
  • Jared Quintero brought Ferony home for the second run when he singled up the middle.
  • The Peacocks would end the inning with two runs on three hits, trailing 7-6.
  • In the fourth, Saint Peter's scored the game-tying run by way of an RBI single from Hunter Mason that propelled Nicholas Sciubba home.
  • With the contest tied at 7-7, Saint Peter's defense kept Iona off the board again in the fifth.
  • The bottom of the fifth witnessed a lead change, as the Peacocks added three runs in the inning.
  • With the bases loaded, all three runs were scored when Feliciano hit a base clearing double to right field, bringing in Sciubba, Trent Koerner, and Jesse Matos.
  • Saint Peter's would take a 10-7 lead into the sixth.
  • The Peacocks would continue to keep the Gaels without any runs through innings six, seven, and eight.
  • Insurance runs were added by Saint Peter's in the eighth with RBIs by Feliciano and Mason to extend the lead to 12-7.
  • The game came to an end with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, securing the 12-7 win for Saint Peter's.
