Peacocks drop contest against the Pirates via 107-60 decision

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team fell to Seton Hall Tuesday afternoon 107-60 in their third consecutive road game. The Big East opponents applied pressure from the start as the Peacocks sought to battle for all 40 minutes.

Redshirt senior Kendrea Williams once again led the Peacocks in scoring, dropping 13 points against the Pirates, while also contributing two rebounds and an assist in the effort. Freshman Ajia James was Saint Peter's top rebounder in the exchange, securing five boards on the day.

How It Happened
  • The game opened with a 6-2 lead going to Seton Hall, while the opening Saint Peter's bucket came on a layup from redshirt senior Taiah Thornton.
  • After a jumper from graduate Jenna Clark at the 8:14 mark in the first quarter which brought the score to 6-4, the Pirates went on an 8-0 run to increase their advantage to 14-4 until a Sky Castro lay-up ended the streak.
  • With less than a minute left in the opening frame, Williams knocked down her first triple of the day and finished two shots from the charity stripe on the following possession to narrow the Seton Hall lead to 24-15.
  • Midway through the second quarter, the Pirates lead had extended to 39-19 following a 13-4 run to open the period, with James and classmate Taylor Abraham putting up the four points on behalf of Saint Peter's.
  • The Peacocks were able to string together an 8-2 run over the last two and a half minutes of the first half, with four points coming from the hands of Castro. The Peacocks would head into the locker room trailing 49-27.
  • The Peacocks opened the scoring in the second half with James putting in a lay-up off the inbound from Thornton. Another bucket from Williams inside the paint and a pair of free throws from junior Binta Salawu with seven minutes remaining in the period brought the score to 51-33 in favor of the Pirates.
  • A subsequent 16-2 run by Seton Hall extended their lead to 67-35 with just over four minutes left in the quarter.
  • Saint Peter's was able to put together a 6-1 run to end the third frame off a combined effort from Williams and freshmen Giah Moore and Rachel Kuhl, as the score read 83-50 heading into the last 10 minutes of play.
  • Abraham was the first Peacock to get on the board in the final quarter, knocking down a pair of shots from the charity stripe, bringing the score to 93-52.
  • The final eight points from the Peacocks came from a combined effort of Abraham, James, and junior Nickelle O'Neil, with a final score of 107-60 to the Pirates.
