GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's University men's and women's cross country teams concluded their abbreviated 2020-21 spring campaign on Friday with inspiring performances at the 2020-21 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Cross Country Championship at the Seaview Golf Club.
For the second straight race, first-year transfers
Francis Martingale and
Shelby Piccinic were the top finishers on the men's and women's sides, respectively. Both finished inside the top-100 of their respective fields, while the latter placed 41
st in the women's 6K race.
Piccinic Paces Peacocks
- Piccinic, the Army West Point transfer product, followed up her Peacock debut with another stellar showing at the league championships.
- The Colonia, New Jersey, native finished in the top-third of the entire field, placing 41st overall in 23:52.16.
- Sophomores Tola Osipitan (29:24.72), Kaylah Davis (29:27.86) and Grace Proctor (31:32.31) rounded out the top-four of the Saint Peter's women's contingent, just outside of the top-100 women's runners.
- Finally, redshirt junior Lovely Francois (33:15.85) and rookies Janai Orders (34:18.38) and Ka'Rynn Hill (35:08.43) rounded out the field.
Martingale Headlines Men's Finishers
- Martingale was the top men's finisher for the second race in a row, placing just inside of the top-100 of the entire men's circuit in 94th overall. The first-year Peacock crossed the finish line in 28:28.20.
- Junior Michael Conover was the second-fastest men's runner for Saint Peter's on Friday, placing 108th in 29:17.01.
- The next three Peacock men to cross the finish line were redshirt sophomore Clardo Nestor (30:07.51), sophomore David Szaro (30:54.43), rookie Phillip Reguinho (34:21.43) and senior Rodolfo Cirilo (34:28.32).
