Higgs-Salaam Qualifies for NCAA East Regionals in Long Jump

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Sophomore jumper and sprinter Jabari Higgs-Salaam has added another accolade to his already-impressive two-year résumé after officially qualifying in the long jump for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Eastern Regional Championship, as announced today.

Coming off of his conference-best 7.46-meter jump that helped him win the event at the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Championships earlier this month, Higgs-Salaam officially punched his ticket to the NCAA Regionals. The mark  was tied for 46th in the region at the conclusion of the regular season, a distance that earned a regional qualification in the process.

Higgs-Salaam becomes the first Peacock to qualify for the regional championship since former All-American and Saint Peter's Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Isaiah Harris '14 last did so in 2014; the latter would earn All-America accolades twice in 2013-14 with top-20 finishes in the high jump at both the indoor and outdoor national championships.

The meet will be held at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium from Wednesday, May 26 through Saturday (May 29). Higgs-Salaam is slated to compete in the long jump on Wednesday, May 26, with the event set to begin at 3 p.m.
