LEWISBURG, PA. (April 5, 2022) - Using a strong eight-run first inning, Bucknell added five more runs over the next three innings to pick up a 13-0 win over the Saint Peter's University softball team in five innings Tuesday afternoon at Becker Field.
Top Performers
- Junior Katie Sciglimpaglia picked up the lone two hits of the game for the Peacocks going 2 for 2 with a pair of singles.
- Junior Cara McNulty was hit by a pitch to reach base safely and has now reached base in 22 of the Peacocks' 29 games this season.
- Freshman Kasidy Slusser was the most effective pitcher in the circle for SPU, allowing three runs on two hits across 2.0 innings.
How it Happened
- Sciglimpaglia gave the Peacocks a scoring opportunity in the top of the first with a one-out single, moved to second when McNulty was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a passed ball.
- SPU was unable to bring her home, however, stranding a pair in scoring position.
- The Bison started things off with eight runs in their half of the first, five of which were earned, in the bottom of the first highlighted by three RBI singles and a two-RBI double.
- After not scoring in the second, Bucknell added three more runs in the third on a three-run home run to extend the lead to 11-0.
- In the fourth, the Bison tacked on two more on an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI single to push the final score to 13-0.
From the Dugout (Head Coach Chris Stelma)
- "Difficult day out there. It's not easy to improve when you get down that much that early. We need to work on commanding the strike zone and finding the barrel of the bat with our hitters again. We had a real nice start, but we need to find a way to turn this streak around."
Next Up
- The Peacocks return to action Saturday when they travel to Hamden, Ct., to take on Quinnipiac in a MAAC doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
