LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to action for day one of the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. The day proved successful for the Peacocks, as seven student-athletes qualified for the finals on Sunday and Ibrahim Seidou-Bakari took home the bronze medal in the Hammer Throw.

The keynote of Saturday for the Peacocks came in the Hammer Throw. Teammates Ibrahim Seidou-Bakari and Dylan Powell were able to score 11 points in the throws, as they claimed third and fourth respectively. Seidou-Bakari's distance of 48.07m netted him both the bronze medal and a new personal collegiate best in the event by almost a full 2m. Powell's 46.92m was good for fourth place.

The first qualifier of the day came in the 110 Hurdles on the men's side. Val Augustin posted a time of 15.51 in the prelims and will look for a medal tomorrow in the finals at 12:40pm.

Delano Gooden started the day by qualifying for the 100 Meter and ended it by qualifying for the 200 Meter. Gooden's time of 10.52 in the 100 breaks a school record that has stood for the past 12 years in the event. His time of 22 flat in the 200 prelims qualified him for the finals alongside teammate Quincy Hendy, who finished with a time of 21.67. That time also sets a new personal collegiate best for Hendy in the event. The 100 Meter finals will take place tomorrow at 1:20pm and the 200 finals will take place at 2:15pm.

Vernetta Gosier looks to add two more MAAC medals to the four that already sit in her trophy case as she qualified for both the 100 and 200 Meter finals. She placed first in her heat during the prelims with a time of 12.48 in the 100. In the 200 prelims, Gosier finished in second in her heat with a time of 25.43. The 100 finals will take place at 1:15pm and the 200 finals will take place at 2:10pm tomorrow.

Diamond McLaughlin finished first in her heat of the 400 Hurdle prelims, qualifying for the finals with a time of 1:06.01. Her teammate, Alexus Smith, also qualified by finishing third in the same heat with a time of 1:06.47. The finals will take place tomorrow at 1:50pm.

Jarrett Gentles placed second in his heat during the 400 Hurdles, qualifying for the finals with a time of 57.17. The finals will take place tomorrow at 2:00pm.

The men's team sits in sixth place with 11 points after day one. The women's team is tied for ninth place with zero points.
