Top Performers

  • Maiah Skakal drove in the lone two runs of the day for the Peacocks at the plate with a two-run home run in game one, her second home run of the season.
  • Samantha Miller had a strong day at the plate in game one going 2 for 2 with a double.
  • Both Aubrey Ketcham and Olyvia Smith had a single hit in both games as they combined to go 4 for 12 while also both stealing a base in the doubleheader.
  • Brandi Feeney added another extra base hit to her ledger with a leadoff double in the second game of the day.

How it Happened (Game One)

  • The Red Foxes started the game on fire offensively as they loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the first frame.
  • After a strikeout, Marist took the lead on a bases-clearing triple to go ahead 3-0.
  • The inning was not done there, however, as they tacked on two more thanks to an error and a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-0.
  • The Peacocks responded in the bottom of the first as Ketcham led the inning off with a single, moved to second on another single by Smith and the bases were loaded with nobody out after Cara McNulty reached on an error.
  • SPU was unable to push a run across, however, as Phippen got a strikeout and a double play in the circle for Marist to end the inning.
  • The top of the second saw two more runs come across the plate on a solo home run and an RBI single to swell the lead to 7-0.
  • After Marist tacked on another in the third, Skakal came to the plate in the bottom half of the first with Miller on first and promptly unloaded on a pitch and sent it over the left field fence for a two-run bomb that made the score 8-2.
  • The Red Foxes would respond with a four-run frame highlighted by a two-run homer to push the lead back into run-rule territory at 12-2 in the fifth.
  • SPU couldn't keep the game from ending early in their final at-bat as they fell in game one.

How it Happened (Game Two)

  • The Red Foxes again struck first in the second game of the day as they used a single, back-to-back stolen bases and an RBI single up the middle in the second inning to take an early lead.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning as Marist added three insurance runs on a two-run triple and a wild pitch to swell the lead to four.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Red Foxes opened the game up as an error and back-to-back singles loaded the bases and set things up for Hannah Brock who laced a grand slam over the wall to make the score 8-0.
  • The Peacocks were unable to muster any offense in the bottom of the seventh, dropping the second contest and ending their season.

Inside the Numbers

  • Despite the losses, the Peacocks still finished the season with 22 victories, the most of any team since 2007. Additionally, the seven MAAC victories are also the most for SPU since 2007.
  • As a team, SPU closes the year with 355 hits, good for eighth-best all-time and the most since 2006.
  • Both McNulty and Smith racked up 55 hits this season, tied for ninth-most of any single season in program history.
  • Freshman Dakota Pitts produced 12 doubles this season, tied for ninth-most all-time and the most since Lee Harrison had 13 in 2016.
  • The game was the final in the careers of seniors Taylor Rondon and Marissa Morales.
  • With the losses, SPU closes the season in a tie for eighth place in the MAAC standings.
  • The future looks bright for the Peacocks as they will return all nine starting position players in 2023 as well as the pitchers with the three top ERAs to the roster.
