NEWARK, N.J.- Saint Peter's University baseball senior
Sam Haney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) added to his school record with his tenth homerun of the season as the Peacocks defeated NJIT 7-2 in a non-conference clash.
The Peacocks improve to 8-38 overall, while the Highlanders fall to 19-27.
Haney got the Peacocks on the board in the first inning with a two-run homerun to take a 2-0 lead.
Saint Peter's held the lead until the later innings as NJIT scored a run in the sixth and tied the game with a run in the seventh to even the score at 2-2.
The Peacocks loaded the bases in the eighth as junior
Sam Delcollo (Kennett Square, Pa.) was hit by a pitch for force in a run. R-Fr.
Garrett Greco (Rostraver Township, Pa.) doubled in two runs to push the score to 5-2. Saint Peter's added to their lead in the ninth as freshman
Jayden Asencio (Central Islip, N.Y.) singled in two runs in the inning.
Junior
Zach Frasher (Byron Center, Mich.) tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, striking out three to earn the win.
The Peacocks travel to Quinnipiac University for a conference three-game series starting on Thursday, May 11 at 3 pm.
