JERSEY CITY, NJ. - Cara McNulty from Saint Peter's Softball was ranked as the 15th best middle infielder in the nation by D1 Softball. McNulty was the highest-ranked middle infielder from a New Jersey school and the only middle infielder from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to be recognized on the list. McNulty heads into her fifth year as a part of the program in 2024. The SPU graduate student has been a cornerstone of the team over the last four seasons. The collegiate softball veteran has a career fielding percentage of .974, has started in 148 games, tallied 141 hits, seven home runs, and 72 RBIs with a career batting average of .315.
There is a long list of notable accomplishments and accolades for McNulty. Last season, the New Jersey native led the team with a .373 batting average, 60 hits, and 17 doubles and was named to the All-MAAC Second Team and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association Northeast Region Second Team honors. McNulty finished the season ranked fifth in the MAAC in batting average and tied for second in hits and second in doubles. McNulty was also named to the All-MAAC Second Team as a junior in 2022 when she became the first SPU player since 2007 to land on an All-MAAC team.
Off the field, she is a three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team. McNulty graduated from Saint Peter's with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Media Culture in May 2023.
"I can't say enough good things about Cara McNulty. She is the prototype of a ball player. Her loyalty, work, ethic, and pride in the University make this honor not a surprise to us at all. She is deserving of this and so much more and we can't wait to watch her this season. Ballplayers like Cara don't come along everyday. I plan to enjoy every bit of this season with her," said Saint Peter's Softball head coach Chris Stelma.
The Saint Peter's University Athletics Department will be hosting its 2024 Peacock Nation Baseball/Softball First Pitch Dinner on Saturday, February 3 at the Duncan Family Sky Room starting at 6 pm. The Saint Peter's Softball season begins on Feb. 10 with a doubleheader at Central Connecticut State.
