Cara McNulty Hits Two Home Runs In Softball's Doubleheader At CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, CT. - The Saint Peter's Softball team dropped Sunday's doubleheader at Central Connecticut State on Sunday. The Peacocks had big performances at the plate from Cara McNulty. McNulty went 3-8 with two home runs, and three RBIs in today's doubleheader. 

Game 1 | Game 2 

Game One - CCSU 7 | Saint Peter's 5

The Peacock's bats were hot in the first inning. With bases loaded, Jess Forte walked for an RBI. Saint Peter's led 4-0 after Maiah Skakal cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple. Skakal finished the game 1-2 with three RBIs.

CCSU got on the board in the bottom of the first when Meg Gorman hit a home run over left field. 

McNulty blasted her first home run of the season and extended SPU's advantage to 5-1. From there, the Blue Devils scored five unanswered runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Peyton Stringer hit a home run followed by a single from Ava Cino, and the Blue Devils cut the deficit to 5-3.  

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Kassandra Machado tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI double. With a runner on base, Cino delivered the game-winning home run, and the Peacocks fell 7-5. 

Game Two - CCSU 9 | SPU - 4   (6innings.)
At the top of the third inning, McNulty hit her second home run of the day which gave the Peacocks a 2-1 lead. CCSU's Stringer hit two home runs in the game. Stringer hit a two-run in the bottom of the third inning and a solo shot in the fifth. In the top of the sixth inning,  Dakota Pitts hit her first home run of the season, and Jess Forte went yard which tied up the game at 4-4. Forte is tied with McNulty for the team lead in home runs this season with two. In the bottom of the sixth, Peacocks walked in a run, and Machado hit a grand slam, for a 9-4 final.

The Peacocks (3-5) will travel to Dover, Delaware, for a three-game swing at Delaware State (1-2). Saint Peter's faces DSU on Friday, Mar. 2, at 11AM. Saturday, Mar. 3, will be a doubleheader that starts at 12PM.
