JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Softball team (8-8) split Wednesday's doubleheader against Niagara (4-6) at Jaroschak Field. SPU's Dakota Pitts hit a home run in each game.

Game 1 Saint Peter's - 5 | Niagara - 4
SPU pitcher Krisen Brennan pitched a complete game and picked up her fourth win on the year. The Peacocks hit three home runs in the game. Saint Peter's senior Kaitlynn Peters went 2-3, with one home run, and two RBIs. Pitts went 2-3 with one home run, and one RBI.
The Peacocks scored off a Niagara fielding error in the bottom of the second inning. The Purple Eagles took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the second when Niagara catcher Maggie Kellher hit a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cara McNulty hit her third home run of the season, and the game was tied at 2-2. In the same inning, Peters hit a two-run home run to left field, which extended SPU's lead to 4-2. Pitts hit a solo shot to left center field in the bottom of the fifth inning for Saint Peter's final run of the game.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Niagara center fielder Samantha Hare added two runs with an RBI single. Peacocks recorded the third out and held off the Purple Eagles for their first conference win.
Game 2 - Niagara - 9 | Saint Peter's - 7 - 8 Innings
At the plate, Pitts went 1-4 with one home run and three RBIs. SPU freshman Zailees Seda and McNulty each went 2-4 with one RBI.
The Purple Eagles led 2-0 through four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Seda hit an RBI single which scored Jess Forte. Later in the inning, Seda scored on a throwing error, which tied the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Peters gave the Peacocks a 3-2 lead with an RBI double. Niagara responded with five runs in the top of the seventh. After Niagara's Jolyn Gibbons hit an RBI single, Niagara led 7-3.
The Peacocks sent the game into extra innings after a four-run seventh inning. With the bases loaded SPU added a run on a fielder's choice. With two runners on, Pitts tied the game at 7-7 with a three-run home run to left field.
In extra innings, the Purple Eagles scored two runs on a walk and a sacrifice fly. Niagara prevented the Peacocks from scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning and won the second game 9-7.
Next, Saint Peter's travels to Brooklyn, New York for a doubleheader at LIU Brooklyn (10-11) on Thursday, Mar. 14. The first game begins at 12 PM.
