JERSEY CITY, NJ. - Saint Peter's Athletics has named Maiah Skakal from Saint Peter's Softball and Ashton Smith from Saint Peter's Swim & Dive as the Peacocks of the Month for their accomplishments in March.
Maiah Skakal currently leads the Saint Peter's Softball team with a .397 batting average. The SPU senior was named the Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week (Mar. 6). Skakal had a massive series at the plate in the Peacocks' series sweep over Delaware State on Mar. 3-4. The New York native batted .750 in the series. Skakal collectively went 9-12 with three RBIs and scored five runs. In the Peacocks' 8-5 win over DSU in the final game of the series, Skakal went 4-4 at the plate with four singles and one RBI. On Tuesday, Mar. 26, in Saint Peter's doubleheader against FDU, Skakal recorded her 100th career hit.
On Friday, Mar. 22, Saint Peter's junior Ashton Smith qualified in the Men's 100-meter Butterfly heat for the 2024 Olympic Trials for his native country of Australia. The Saint Peter's standout broke multiple school records this season, which includes the 50-yard freestyle (20.52), 100-yard freestyle (44.63), and 100-yard butterfly (48.55).
