BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Saint Peter's Softball team was defeated in Saturday's doubleheader at Canisius (10-12, 5-2 MAAC). The Peacocks dropped to 12-17 on the year and 2-3 in MAAC play.
Game One | Game Two
Game One - Canisius - 13 | Saint Peter's - 1 (Five Innings)
The Griffins recorded 14 hits in the game. Canisius tallied seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Gianna Fazzolari. The Griffin's Christie McGee-Ross went 3-4 at the plate with six RBIs. McGee-Ross hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. Saint Peter's freshman Zailees Seda tallied her 10th career RBI.
Game Two - Canisius - 9 | Saint Peter's - 8 (Eight Innings)
At the plate, Dakota Pitts went 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Sophie Wilson went 1-1 with two RBIs. Saint Peter's freshman pitcher Morgan Lipansky recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts.
The Peacock's bats got going in the top of the fourth inning as SPU scored five runs. With the bases loaded, Dakota Pitts hit a three-RBI double that gave Saint Peter's a 3-2 advantage. Jess Forte hit her sixth home run of the season. Forte's two-run home run extended the Peacocks' lead to 5-2. Forte is tied with Cara McNulty for team leader in home runs this season with six.
Pitts delivered a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning and the Peacocks led 6-2. Canisius tied up the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fazzolari went yard with a two-run home run followed by a two-RBI double from Morgan Cook.
Saint Peter's scored two runs in extra innings. Singles from Pitts and McNulty put two runners on base. Wilson singled up the middle and drove in both runs. Saint Peter's took an 8-6 advantage.
Megan Giese cut into Canisius' 8-6 deficit with a home run. With two runners on base, Fazzolari hit a walk-off two-RBI single.
Saint Peter's wraps up its three-game series at Canisius tomorrow at noon.
