NEW YORK, NY – The Saint Peter's track and field team began competition at the Dr. Sander Invitational on Friday at the NYC Armory. Hosted by Columbia University, the two-day meet saw several solid performances and personal milestones for the Peacocks.
WHAT HAPPENED:
Junior Elijah Kiboma opened the competition for the Peacocks in the men's 800m open, finishing 23rd out of 47 competitors with a time of 1:59.01
At 11 a.m., freshman Adrianna Rollins delivered a stellar performance in the women's triple jump open, securing fifth place with a mark of 11m, a new personal best.
Senior Diamond McLaughlin claimed a top-10 finish in the women's 400m open, clocking in at 1:00.2. She returns to the track Saturday in the women's 200m seeded, scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
In the women's 60m open, just after 12:30 pm, sophomore Karilynn Jimenez led the Peacocks with a 20th-place finish out of 52 participants, running 8.02. Freshmen Shania McDuffie and Samyah Wilson also competed, posting times of 8.23 and 8.29, respectively. The trio will be back tomorrow competing in the 200m open, just after 10:15am.
The men's 60m open showcased impressive results, with freshman Ameer Zubair earning second place with a time of 7.01, followed closely by teammate Dylan Williams, who took fourth at 7.04.
The day concluded with the men's 60m Invitational Final, where junior Cashieve Blair secured a podium finish, placing third with a time of 6.82. Graduate student Delano Gooden also excelled, finishing eighth in 6.88.
Both Blair and Gooden are set to compete tomorrow in the 200m events. Gooden will take on the men's 200m seeded at 12:20 p.m., while Blair will race in Heat 2 of the 200m Invitational just before 1:30 pm.
The Peacocks return to action tomorrow morning, with junior Ciara Brown opening the day, competing in the women's shot put open at 9:30 am.
