NEW YORK, NY– After a short break, the Saint Peter's track and field programs return to action Friday, January 30, for the Metropolitan Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. First gun is set for 10 a.m.
The Peacocks enter the weekend riding momentum from the Wagner College Invitational, where they combined for five podium finishes. Senior
Ciara Brown led the way with a silver in the shot put, while
Amari Campbell earned bronze in the long jump. On the track,
Favour Owolabi and
Brian Yeager each secured podium finishes in the 500m and 800m, respectively, and the men's 4x400 relay added a silver to close the meet.
Several Peacocks also turned in strong individual performances at Wagner.
Maya McKinley impressed in her 400m debut, placing inside the top 15 of a 33-athlete field while shaving nearly three seconds off the team's season-best. Owolabi opened the day with a bronze in his 500m debut, clocking 1:04.74. Yeager followed with a third-place finish in the 800m (1:55.76), while Campbell cleared 7.18m in the long jump. Brown finished as Saint Peter's highest-placed individual overall with a runner-up performance in the shot put (11.38m), and
Adriana Rollins capped the meet with a top-five finish in the triple jump.
LAST YEAR AT METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the 2025 Metropolitan Championships, the men's team placed fifth out of 13 institutions, while the women finished ninth overall. Gooden captured the 60m title and added silver in the 200m, while Campbell secured a runner-up finish in the long jump.
The men's 4x200 relay placed fourth, while the women were led by a second-place finish from the 4x200 relay squad of
Karilynn Jimenez, Diamond McLaughlin, Samyah Wilson, and
Shania McDuffie. Brown recorded a personal-best throw in the shot put, finishing fourth, and Rollins added a top-six finish in the triple jump.
In the 500m dash, sophomore Ziolkowski took fifth place (1:05.58), and in the 800m,
Elijah Kiboma placed eighth with a then personal best of 1:58.43.
Fordham men's claimed the title with a team score of 180, followed by Rowan (156.50) and Manhattan (101). The women's side was won by St. John's with a score of 247.50, followed by Fordham (203) and FDU (57).
