FAIRFIELD, CONN.- The Peacocks (2-15,0-4 MAAC) fall to Fairfield (7-10,5-2 MAAC) in a heartbreaking 3-6 defeat on Friday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Steve Polizzi, Alex Manent, and Chase Fogg had a game with each of them having an RBI to add to their line. Kurt Thomas started on the mound for six innings, facing 33 batters, allowing eight hits and three runs. Followed by Joey Tonotti taking over for the remaining innings, facing nine batters, allowing two hits and three runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED-
Saint Peter's had a strong defensive performance in the first and second innings, only allowing one run for Fairfield.
The Stags would continue to score runs in the third and fourth innings, till the fifth inning, where the Peacocks would hold them to zero runs and score from a Manent single to second base, allowing Max Doninger to run to home plate. This was followed by a Polizzi double to center field, allowing Joey Dwyer to score.
In the sixth and seventh innings, both teams struggled to create any momentum for their offense.
At the top of the eighth inning, Fairfield would score three unanswered runs and hold the Peacocks to zero runs at the bottom of the inning.
SPU would try to mount a comeback at the bottom of the ninth, only scoring one run from a Fogg single to left field that allowed Luke Schwartz to score. The Stags would go on to hold the Peacocks to only one run in the bottom of the inning, ending the game as a defeat for Saint Peter's.
