Peacocks Drop Doubleheader To Iona

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Peacocks (4-31, 0-17 MAAC) fell to Iona (13-18, 9-7 MAAC) in both games of the double header, in a 7-16 defeat in one and a 6-9 nail-biting loss for Saint Peter's.

Kurt Thomas started game one for the Peacocks, facing 29 batters and allowing eight hits for five innings. James Ellis pitched for game two, where he faced 28 batters, allowing just seven hits.

Steve Polizzi had himself a game by adding a home run to his line for the fifth consecutive game this season.​

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE-
Saint Peter's would see their first run at the bottom of the third from a Joey Dwyer single to left field, allowing Louis D'Alessio to score. Followed by a Polizzi home run to left field, sending him and Dwyer to home plate and making it his fifth consecutive game with a home run. Iona would answer back at the top of the fourth with a run of their own ending the inning at 3-6. 

Both SPU and Iona struggled to score runs until the sixth inning, where Iona would go on to score three runs. In addition to four more runs to add to their lead at the top of the seventh.

Saint Peter's began a comeback with four runs at the bottom of the seventh inning,  from a Max McCluskey getting walked to first, allowing Luke Schwartz to score, then by a Polizzi single to left center, sending Louis D'Alessio and Allen Ramos to home. The scoring run would end with an Alex Manent single down left field, sending McCluskey for a run.

Iona answered back with two runs of their own in the eighth inning and added one more in the ninth.

​The Gaels would go on to hold the Peacocks and score two more runs to end the game as a defeat for Saint Peter's.

GAME TWO- 

Iona would open the scoreboard with three runs in the first inning. In addition to four more runs in the second inning. 

Saint Peter's would begin their offensive push with a run in the bottom of the second with a Schwartz single to left field sending Manent to home plate.

The Peacocks would hold Iona back in the third inning and add two more runs from a Polizzi grounded ball to shortstop, giving Louis D'Alessio the chance to score. Followed by an Aidan Forrest single to right field, sending Manent to home plate. 


Iona would add two more runs to the box score in the top of the fourth inning and held Saint Peter's to zero runs till the fifth inning, where they would score one more run from a Forrest single to first base, sending Dwyer home.


Iona and Saint Peter's would struggle at bat in the sixth inning, but SPU would get two more runs from Schwartz's single to second base. 

The Peacocks were unable to take the lead, falling to a 6-9 defeat for Saint Peter's

The Peacocks are heading to Rochelle, New York to face the Gaels to wrap up their three game series on Sunday at 12 p.m. EST.
