Saint Peter's Falls To Siena In Low-Scoring Battle

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Peter's baseball team (5-39, 1-22 MAAC) dropped a conference matchup to Siena (17-26, 9-14 MAAC) by a final score of 3-6 on Saturday at Connors Park, tying up the series at 1-1.

Despite the result, the Peacocks showed resilience throughout the contest, chipping away after an early deficit. Saint Peter's tallied hits late in the game, but the Saints' strong first inning proved to be the difference.

Chase Fogg and Joey Dwyer led the way offensively, with Fogg recording an RBI double while Dwyer launched a solo home run. Luke Schwartz added multiple extra-base hits and was active on the basepaths, scoring twice for the Peacocks.

On the mound, Joey Tonnotti delivered a solid performance in relief, tossing four shutout innings while striking out four and allowing no hits to keep Saint Peter's within reach.

The Peacocks showed flashes of momentum as the game progressed, but Siena managed to respond at key moments to maintain control. Saint Peter's will look to bounce back in its series finale in hopes for their first series win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Siena struck early in the bottom of the first inning, with a grand slam to jump out to a 4-0 lead before adding another run later in the frame to make it 5-0.

After a quiet stretch, Saint Peter's began to find its rhythm in the middle innings, sparked by Schwartz, who hit a pair of doubles to put himself in scoring position. His aggressive baserunning paid off as in the fifth inning when Fogg ripped an RBI double to left field, bringing home Schwartz and cutting the deficit to four.

On the mound, Tonnotti kept Siena's bats in check with an impressive outing out of the bullpen, holding the Saints scoreless across four innings and allowing Saint Peter's to steadily chip away.

The Peacocks continued to battle in the seventh inning, bringing home a run as Schwartz came around to score on a play at second base, making it 2-5. Unfortunately, Siena answered in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to extend its lead back to four runs.

Saint Peter's responded once more in the eighth as Dwyer sent a ball over the left field wall for a solo shot, his first of the season, trimming the score to 3-6. However, the Peacocks were unable to complete the comeback down the stretch.
