Michael Williams joined the Saint Peter's University women's basketball staff ahead of the 2020-21 season and serves as the director of player development and coaches consultant.
Williams arrives in Jersey City after serving one season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach/Strength & Conditioning Coach at City College of New York. In his first season, he took the program to the CUNYAC postseason, coached the leading scorer in the nation and the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year and Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year in Reilly Boehm. The program also had one player who made the CCNY Dean list and six players named to the CCNY Athletic Director Honor roll.Â
Before arriving at City College of New York, he served as the  Athletic Administrator/Event Game Manager/Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Simmons University. During his time at Simmons, he led the Sharks to their first postseason appearance since 2010, advancing to the GNAC Tournament quarterfinals. Then, in 2018-19, Williams coached and developed a GNAC All-Conference honoree and the all-time seventh-leading scorer in NCAA Division III.
Prior to joining Simmons, he spent a season at the helm of the Pratt Institute women's basketball program, overseeing a complete turnaround. He guided the Cannoneers from a winless season during the 2014-15 campaign to a 7-7 record in 2015-16 while coaching two All-Conference players and a Rookie of the Year selection.
Before Pratt, Williams spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham and worked alongside Saint Peter's head coach Marc Mitchell. During his time at FDU, he helped guide the Devils to a 62-2 (.968) record, two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, two MAC Freedom Conference Championships, and the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship.
