Despite an eight-point advantage in set one, the Saint Peter's women's volleyball team (1-20, 0-7 MAAC) was unable to hold the lead and fell to the Loyola University Greyhounds (10-7, 3-3 MAAC) this afternoon (23-25, 11-25, 19-25). Kristina Baehr recorded her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 24 assists and 10 digs.
The Peacocks jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the opening frame, paced by strong serving and defense. Loyola threatened to come back, cutting the lead to four at 13-9, but Saint Peter's forged forward and established separation at 17-10 following a kill by Lauren Behrens. The Greyhounds soon formed an 11-3 run, and captured their first advantage of the set (21-20) following a time-out by Head Coach Andrew Brown. The hosts would score three straight points for a 24-21 lead and win the game 25-23.
Saint Peter's recorded a -.143 hitting percentage in the second set en route to a 25-11 defeat. The Peacocks had their best hitting performance of the match in set three (.344), but the Greyhounds' finished with a .400 percentage to give the hosts the 25-19 victory.
Lauren Behrens recorded a team-high 13 kills in the match. Three players finished with double-digit digs for Saint Peter's: Jenny Pliska (14), Kristina Baehr (10) and Laura Reinhart (10).
The Peacocks return to action tomorrow, as they travel to Lawrenceville, NJ to face off against Rider at 1pm.
