Recap:
After scoring first in the top of the opening inning, the Peacocks were able to establish an early lead and add the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in the fourth inning against the defending Big East Conference Champions. Led by a seven inning, no earned run, five hit pitching performance by Eric Mozeika, the Saint Peter's College (5-16) baseball team picked up the 3-1 victory over the Seton Hall Pirates (9-10). This marks the third time in school history that SPC has defeated SHU, with the last win occurring in 2005 when the Peacocks topped the Pirates 14-12.
Saint Peter's struck in the top of the first frame, as Justyn Carter led off with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice bunt by William Rawson put Carter on third, and gave way to an RBI groundout from Russ Stupienski to give SPC the 1-0 lead. The hosts recorded an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 1-1.
The Peacocks recovered their lead three innings later, as Stupienski doubled to left field with one out. Chris Grimes would follow with a base hit to center, scoring Stupienksi and also advancing to second on the throw. An error by SHU's pitcher allowed Grimes to move to third, where he would score following an RBI bunt single by Preston Aldridge.
SPC out-hit the Pirates 6-5, with both teams recording an error a piece. Justyn Carter led the Peacocks offensively, going 2-4 with a run scored and stolen base. Chris Grimes and Russ Stupienski each went 1-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Saint Peter's also turned a triple play in the third inning, third base to first to short to catcher.
England's squad returns to action this Saturday, March 24th for their first home game of the season against NJIT. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 12pm.
