opening dive... The Saint Peter's men's swimming and diving team will battle NJIT on Friday night in Newark, N.J.
last splash… Jonathan Gomez and Nick Reipe won two events apiece to pace the Peacocks men's swimming and diving team in a 136-69 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology on Oct. 26. Gomez won the 200 IM (1:55.16) and the 100 back (52.39). Reipe spent the most time in the pool and won both long-distance races after taking the 1000 free (9:56.22) and the 500 free (4:53.04). Sean Dunne placed third in both the 50 free (22.26) and the 200 breast (1:03.08). Trey McGraw was third in the 200 free (1:46.60), Manuel Garcia finished third in the 100 fly (53.62) and Omar Hassan placed third in the 100 back (57.18). Garcia, Alejandro Rubin, Gomez and McGraw teamed up to finish third in the 400-medley relay (3:17.21).
next time in the water… Both the men's and women's swimming and diving team returns to action at the Frank Elms Invitational on Nov. 23-24.
gomez honored… Jonathan Gomez was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week of Oct. 16-22. It is the freshman's first conference honor. Gomez made quite a splash in his collegiate debut after posting four first-place finishes and one second-place standing at the Sonny Werblin Invitational over the weekend. The freshman won the 500 free (4:42.77), the 200 back (1:54.24) and the 200 fly (1:54.84) individually and then was on the winning 200-medley relay team (1:40.13) and the first place 200-free relay (1:29.92). The freshman also finished second in the 200 IM (1:57.88).
about the coach… Mohamed Abdelaal begins his fourth season as the head coach for the men's and women's swimming teams at Saint Peter's. Last season, Abdelaal was named the MAAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year.
