Brown Downs Women's Basketball, 64-52

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's second half comeback would fall short on Saturday, as Brown University defeated the Peacocks, 64-52.

The Peacocks had four players score in double-figures, including Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) who paced Saint Peter's with 15 points. Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) finished just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds to go along with her 13 points. Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) tallied six assists to go with seven rebounds and 12 points. 

In the first half, Saint Peter's started fast behind the scoring of Smith to take a 7-0 lead. Following a Brown timeout, the Bears would respond, going on a 10-2 run to take a one-point lead. With the scored tied at 10, Brown would hit jump shots to take a 17-10 advantage. A jump shot and layup by May cut Saint Peter's deficit. Brown was hot from the three-point line in the first half, hitting four three-point field goals in the last seven minutes to take a 38-25 lead into halftime.

Smith led all scorers at halftime with 12 points. Sophie Bikofsky had 10 points for the Bears.

In the second half, the Bears would start with a 12-2 run behind free throws and two three-point fields by Bikofsky to take a 50-27 advantage. Following a Saint Peter's timeout, the Peacocks began to make a run. 

Bent and May began the run with back-to-back jump shots to cut the deficit to 19. A pair of free throws by Bent and a three-pointer by Smith kept the run alive for Saint Peter's. Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt / Modern Narmer Language School) put in back-to-back baskets to bring Saint Peter's within 11 with just fewer than 10 minutes to go in the half. A free throw by KJ Veldman would snap a 16-5 run by the Peacocks. Back-to-back three-points by Bikosky would give Brown a 61-46 advantage. The Bears would hold to take the game, 64-52.

Three-point field goals would be the difference in this game, as Brown was able to shoot 45% from three-point range. 

Bikosky finished with a game-high 23 points. Lauren Clarke and Jordin Alexander scored 10 points each for the Bears.

With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 0-2 on the season. Brown improves to 1-1.

Saint Peter's returns to action Tuesday, when they welcome Navy to the Yanitelli Center for its non-conference contest.
