Softball Drops A Pair Of Contest At Rebel Games

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Peter's softball team dropped its first two games at the Rebel Games on Monday. The Peacocks (2-13) fell 3-0 to Butler in the opener and then saw Wagner rally for a 7-4 victory in the nightcap.

Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) and Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) each had three hits and an RBI in the two games. Olmedo also scored a run while Amber Velasquez (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) added three hits and a run scored and Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) also knocked in a run on the day.

Separated by less than 20 miles, Saint Peter's and Wagner met for the first time this season at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla. The two teams will also battle in a doubleheader in Staten Island on Apr. 3.

Trailing 4-1, the Seahawks scored the final six runs to take the nightcap, 7-4.

After tying the game with three runs in the bottom of the second, Wagner took a 6-4 lead in the third thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by Brenda Bott and Taylor Rauscher. Abigail Beasley added an RBI single in the fifth to seal the victory.

Saint Peter's jumped out to a 3-0 lead after posting three runs in the top of the first inning.

Velasquez got things started for the Peacocks with a single through the right side with one out. After Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) walked, Olmedo brought home Velasquez on an RBI single to center field. Crews followed with a run-scoring double to plate D'Amato before Olmedo scored on a wild pitch to cap the three-run stanza.

Wagner answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Rauscher scored on an RBI single off the bat of Beasley down the right field line to trim the margin to 3-1.

Saint Peter's came right back with a run in the top of the second inning to restore a three-run lead. Taylor Corretjer (Theills, N.Y./North Rockland) walked to open the inning, stole second and then touched home on Harrison's RBI single up the middle.

The Seahawks tied the game in the bottom of the second inning after crossing three runs across the plate. Carley Nicoletti brought home the first run of the inning on an RBI single to left field before Bott hit a sacrifice fly to plate the second run and then Nicoletti touched home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4.

Wagner then scored three more times to come away with the 7-4 victory.

Butler scored once in the third, once in the fourth and once in the fifth to down the Peacocks 3-0 in their opener at the Rebel Games.

Saint Peter's best chance to score came in the seventh inning. Olmedo singled with one out and Michelle Tinajero (Elmwood Park, Ill./Elmwood Parkj) put runners at second and third with two outs after a double, but a lineout ended the game.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Tuesday in the Peacocks second day at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla. Saint Peter's will battle Robert Morris at 3 p.m. and then Eastern Illinois at 5 p.m.
