Track And Field Heads Down To Virginia For Fred Hardy Invitational

The Saint Peter's University track and field teams continue their outdoor season this holiday weekend as they travel to the University of Richmond to participate in the Fred Hardy Invitational. This season marks the first year the Peacocks are competing in the invitational, that is now in its seventh year.

The meet will span two days- Friday and Saturday. Competition will begin at 1:30pm on Friday with the Hammer event. On Saturday, the first event will commence at 9am (Discuss).

Last Time On The Track: Last weekend, the Peacocks competed in the St. Joseph Golden Eagle Invitational in New York...the Peacocks only competed in the first day of the tournament; in the throwing events...the men were led by Ieshawn Johnson, who won the Discuss tossing a throw of 46.90m, while junior Kenechukwu Aneke took second place in the Shot Put...on the women's side, Cristina Vilsaint was victorious in the Hammer with a toss of 47.90m...the trio of Vilsaint, Regina Raglan and Cherrice Brown captured one-two-three finishes, respectively, in the Shot Put... Sunita Kumar, Sharlyn Ramirez and Vanessa Acosta also finished one-two-three in the Javelin...Kumar led the way with a throw of 32.57m. 

ECAC/IC4A Qualifiers: The Peacocks wrapped up the 2012-13 indoor season the first weekend of March at the ECAC/IC4A championships...Isaiah Harrisand Kevin Persson led the men, with fourth place finishes in their respective events to record 5 points each...Harris competed in the Triple Jump and scored with a mark of 14.92m, while Persson crossed the finish line in the 500m with a time of 1:03.26...Shona Potrzuski scored five points for the women, finishing in fourth in the 500m Run with a time of 1:13.71, while Jamelia Johnson scored three with a sixth place finish in the Triple Jump (12.09m)...

Three-Peat : The women's indoor track and field team secured their third consecutive MAAC Indoor Championship on February 15th at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center...the Peacocks secured their third straight title by finishing with a team score of 185.5...Rider University came in second with 164.5 and Manhattan College followed in third place with a score of 122.5...Iona College finished with 59 points, followed by Loyola University Maryland (50.5) and Marist College (32)...Sophomore Jamelia Johnson was voted the Most Outstanding Performer in field events after capturing first place finishes in both the Long Jump (5.81m) and Triple Jump (11.44m)...

At The Helm : Head Coach Mike Massone is in the middle of his sixth year at the helm of the Saint Peter's track and field program...Massone is a three-time MAAC Indoor Women's Coach of the Year, most recently receiving the honors following this year's 2013 Indoor Championship...Massone is also a two-time MAAC Outdoor Women's Coach of the Year...

Next up: The Peacocks will open the month of April with a local tournament on April 6th, as they travel south to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the Sam Howell Invititational.
