Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Saint Peter's to a 3-0 win in the opening game of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Thursday. The Lions (16-16) came back to earn the split with a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

Feorenzo tossed a three-hit complete-game shutout with four strikeouts for her first win of the season. The shutout was the Peacocks' (6-31) first shutout this season.

Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) posted two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, and Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) added three hits, an RBI and a run scored and Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) had two hits and two runs scored while Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and Amber Velasquez (Hopewell Junction, N.J./John Jay) each had two hits and a run scored on the afternoon.

Macy Scrum powered Columbia with two hits and three RBIs. Alyssa Swearingen added three hits and two runs scored while Emily Snodgrass had two RBIs, a hit and a run scored in the two games.

In the opener, Saint Peter's scored three runs in the first inning and held on for a 3-0 win.

Aided by three doubles and a walk in the first, the Peacocks scored three times in the opening frame to take a 3-0 edge. D'Amato started the rally with a one-out double. After Crews walked, Olmedo plated both D'Amato and Crews on a double to right center before Shelby Beaver (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) capped the three-run stanza with a double to left center to bring home Olmedo.

Feorenzo only allowed six base runners in the contest, but the Lions only put pressure on the Saint Peter's hurler in the fourth. Alix Cook singled with one out and Nicole Bourchard reached on an error before Shrum loaded the bases with a single through the right side with one out. Feorenzo then struck out the next batter and fielded the comebacker to end the threat.

Feorenzo then retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced, only allowing a two-out walk in the seventh inning for her first win of the year.

In the nightcap, it was Columbia that scored three times and never looked back to earn the victory and the doubleheader split with a 6-5 victory.

With the bases loaded in the first, Shrum cleared the bases with a double to left field to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

Velasquez singled through the left side with two outs and touched home on Gilronan's RBI double down the left field line in the second to trim the margin to 3-1.

Columbia answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Snodgrass sacrifice fly to restore a three-run lead at 4-1.

Saint Peter's responded with a run in the fourth after back-to-back doubles by Gilronan and Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Cornado) to cut the margin to 4-2.

The Lions added two runs in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of Snodgrass being by the pitch with the bases loaded and a Cook RBI ground out to increase the lead to 6-2.

Columbia would need those extra runs after the Peacocks scored three times in the seventh to trim the margin to 6-5. D'Amato and Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, Calif./Caldwell College) reached to start the inning on Lions' errors. Crews plated D'Amato with an RBI single up the middle before Beaver brought Parker and Crews around to score on a run-scoring single up the middle to trim the margin to one run. With one out and the tying run on first and after a pitching change, Columbia ended the threat with a pair of strikeouts to earn the victory.

Saint Peter's returns to action at Fairfield on Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m.
