opening tee… The Saint Peter's men's golf team will have its final tune up for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships by hosting the Metro Honda Peacock Invitational on Tuesday. The Peacocks won the event last season and will be one of 12 teams vying for the title at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course on Tuesday. The course was the host of the United States Women's Amateur last year.
last time at that event… Brian Grubbs and TJ Sumigray finished with a round of 70 to help Saint Peter's to first place at the Saint Peter's Invitational on Apr. 23, 2012. Grubbs posted a 35 on the front and the back nine while Sumigray had a 34 and a 36 on the two sides of the golf course to finish with the best mark in the tournament. Grubbs won medalist honors after winning a playoff. Andrew Gain finished fourth and with a round of 72 while Eric Edmunds (26th place, 77) and Greg Nordveit (57th place, 83) also counted for the team competition. Raymond Ferrari (10th place, 73), Luke Previte (32nd place, 78), Billy Sues (39th place, 79), Nick Trill (51st place, 81) and Brandon Molson (63rd place, 87) participated in the event as individuals. Saint Peter's won the event by one stroke over Iona.
last time on the green… Nicholas Dilio finished tied for fifth to lead the Saint Peter's men's golf team to a fourth-place standing at the Monmouth Quad Match on Thursday. Dilio posted a round of 76 to finish in fifth place, four strokes behind the medalists. Steven Competiello posted a career-best round of 79 to finish in 15th place while Brian Grubbs also posted a 79 on the day to finish tied with Competiello. Brandon Molson (22nd place, 82) and Luke Previte (22nd place, 82) also participated for the Peacocks. Fairleigh Dickinson and Monmouth finished tied for the team title with a score of 303 while Hofstra (309) and Saint Peter's (316) rounded out the field.
next time with the clubs… Saint Peter's heads to the MAAC Championships in Florida on Thursday.
a successful fall… Saint Peter's won three of the seven events in the fall after winning the ECAC Championships, the Monmouth Quad Match and the Seton Hall Barnabas Health Invitational. Eric Edmunds won the medalist honors at the ECAC Championship and the Monmouth Quad Event.
a golf weekly favorite… Saint Peter's was tabbed as the Metro Atantic Athletic Conference preseason favorite according to Golf Weekly, finishing ahead of defending champion Loyola while Fairfield, Iona, Canisius, Manhattan, Siena, Rider and Niagara rounded out the poll.
high value on edmunds... Sophomore Eric Edmunds was named the MAAC Golfer of the Month for the month of September. The sophomore won the ECAC Championship and finished second at the Rutgers Invitational while averaging 73.8 strokes per round in 10 rounds in the month.
new feathers in the peacock… Head coach Peter Falloon added freshmen Steven Competiello, Nicholas Dilio and Richard Jakubowski to the team for the 2012-13 campaign.
about the coach… Head coach Peter Falloon is in his sixth season at the helm of the men's golf team. He is a 1965 graduate and was a member of the 1964 undefeated squad that won the MECCA Championship. Falloon was named the MAAC Coach of the Year in 2012 after the Peacocks finished second in the MAAC Championships.
