Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Taylor Corretjer (Theills, N.Y./North Rockland) knocked in the go-ahead run in the third inning to lift Saint Peter's past Delaware 6-3 in the first game of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday. The Blue Hens (32-15) took the nightcap.
With the game tied at 2, Corretjer smacked a single to center to hand the Peacocks (7-36) the lead for good in the third inning of the opener. Corretjer added a two-run double in the fifth to help seal the victory. She went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the contest.
Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) added three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs, including a solo home run. Shelby Beaver (Boyerstown, Pa,/Boyerstown) posted three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs while Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, Calif./Caldwell College) registered three hits and two runs scored on the afternoon. Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) also had three hits along with a run scored in the two games.
Lara Andrews fueled Delaware with three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs. Jessica Grisler recorded four hits and three runs scored while Shelby Jones notched four hits, three runs scored and an RBI on the day.
In the opener, Saint Peter's broke a 2-all standstill with two runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back to earn a 6-3 victory against a team that came into the contest with 31 victories.
After the Blue Hens tied the game at 2 in the top of the inning, the Peacocks rallied for two runs in the bottom of the stanza.
Beaver started the rally with a single to left field before Parker reached on an infield single with one out. Corretjer then singled to left field to plate Beaver while Parker also scored on the play courtesy of an error to give Saint Peter's a 4-2 edge.
Andrews made it a one-run game with a solo homer to left field to trim the margin to 4-3.
Once again the Peacocks answered right back with runs to take a 6-3 advantage in the bottom of the fifth. Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) and Parker each reached on an infield single before Corretjer doubled home both runners to center field.
Delaware was set down in order the final two innings to secure the victory for Saint Peter's.
The Blue Hens got the scoring started in the opener with an RBI-infield single by Jones.
The Peacocks responded with a run in the bottom of the stanza. Harrison reached on an error and touched home on Beaver's RBI single to center to even the score at 1.
Saint Peter's grabbed a 2-1 edge in the second. Amber Velasquez (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) started the frame with a single and moved to second on a bunt by Corretjer. Harrison brought home Velasquez on an RBI single to center field.
Delaware tied the game at 2 in the top of third thanks to an RBI single to right field by Amanda Stacevicz, but the Peacocks scored four of the final five runs to come away with the win.
Beaver got the win after allowing three runs on 10 hits with one strikeout in a complete-game effort.
Just like in the opener the Blue Hens tied the game in the first couple of innings, but in the nightcap Delaware scored five of the final six runs to earn the victory.
With Saint Peter's holding a 3-2 edge, the Blue Hens tied the game at 3 in the second after Hannah George stole third and touched home on a throwing error on the play.
Delaware took the lead for good in the fifth after Grisler tripled and touched home on an Andrew's sacrifice fly. The Blue Hens added a run in the inning on an RBI single by Tori Conrad for a 5-3 edge.
Harrison answered for the Peacocks in the bottom of the stanza with a solo shot to trim the margin to 5-4.
Amanda Stacevicz helped seal the win with a two-run homer in the seventh to hand Delaware a 7-4 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Harrison single to left and Olmedo reached on an infield single with two outs to bring the tying run to the plate. The Blue Hens got out of the jam with a force out on Harrison at third.
Delaware took a 2-0 lead in the nightcap thanks to two runs in the first. Andrews singled home a run and Lisa Stacevivcz singled home the second run.
Saint Peter's scored three times in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Harrison walked, Olmedo reached on a fielder's choice before Beaver plated Harrison with an RBI single to right center. Crews followed with an RBI single to center field to plate Olmedo before Beaver scored on a Parker RBI double for a one-run lead.
The Blue Hens then scored five of the final six runs to earn the win.
Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) took the loss in the second game.
The Peacocks return to action on Saturday against Siena. Game time is 11 a.m. During the twinbill, Saint Peter's will join the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Strikeout Cancer initiative. The teams will wear pink t-shirts during pregame and a 50-50 Raffle will take place with all the money raised going to the America Cancer Society.
