Syracuse, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team was defeated on Friday in each of its matches against Syracuse and Chicago St.
The Peacocks first match of the afternoon came against Syracuse. Junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) finished with a team-high five kills in the contest. Senior Stephanie Mills (Albuquerque, N.M./Del Norte) registered four kills while senior Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) tallied three kills.
In the first set, Syracuse started quickly with a 9-0 run. Syracuse would have complete control of the set, cruising to a 25-5 set win.
Second set, the Orange picked up where they left off, starting the set on a 10-3 run. The Peacocks would get the deficit within six, but it wouldn't be enough as Syracuse went on to win the set, 25-12.
In the third set, both teams traded points back and forth to tie the match at 15. With the score tied, Saint Peter's went on a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead in the set. Syracuse however, would respond with a run 9-1 run, to win the set 25-21.
Senior Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) finished with a game-high 13 digs. Junior Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished with a team-high 12 assists.
Syracuse player Silvia Uattara registered a game-high 14 kills. Nicolette Serratore tallied eight kills in the Orange victory.
The second match of the afternoon came against Chicago St. Sophomore Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) finished with a team-high eight kills in the match. Mills, Reinhart, junior Brittany Smith (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) along with freshmen Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush), Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J. / Wallington) all finished with a kill each.
First set, Chicago St. jumped out early with a 10-5 run. The Peacocks would respond with a 7-4 run to bring the deficit within four points. The Cougars would seize the set, going on a 9-4 run to win the first set, 25-16.
In the second set, both teams exchanged points with the Cougars out in front 10-7. Chicago St. would then go on a 15-4 run to end the set, 25-11.
Third set, Chicago St. starts the half with six straight points. Saint Peter's would try to respond, but it wouldn't be enough as Chicago St. went on to win the third and final set, 25-13.
Pliska finished with a team-high 12 kills. Behrens registered seven digs.
Chicago St. player Paula Sioto finished with a game-high 17 kills. Rachel Levitt registered nine kills.
With the losses, Saint Peter's drops to 1-9 overall. Saint Peter's returns to action Saturday morning to take on Delaware St. at 9:30 a.m.
