Saint Peter's Women's Basketball Makes 2014-15 Yanitelli Center Debut Against Lehigh On Tuesday Night

GAME TWO… Tuesday's contest between Saint Peter's and Lehigh marks the fifth meeting in the all-time series.

  • Lehigh has won the previous four contests against Saint Peter's dating back to the 2010-11 season.
  • The Peacocks were defeated 75-54 last season at in Bethlehem.
  • Hala Mostafa paced the Peacocks with eight points, four rebounds, four assists and five blocks.
  • Antonia Smith scored six points along with four rebounds and three assists.
  • Marcia Sentaus tallied six points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Junior F Kerry Kinek paced Lehigh with 25 points in last season's matchup.
  • Elizabeth Sharlow, Katie O'Reilly and Kiernan McCloskey all finished in double-figures in the victory.

HOME OPENERS… Saint Peter's is 4-9 in the team's last 13 home opening contests.

  • Saint Peter's last home opening win came against Fairleigh Dickinson in the 2008-09 season. 

ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS… Lehigh comes into Tuesday's tilt a perfect 3-0 this season. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 74-54 victory over NJIT on Nov. 21.

  • Sophomore F Lexi Martins paces Lehigh in scoring (17.0 ppg) and rebounding average per contest (12.0 rpg).
  • Kinek is the team's second leading scorer (15.7 ppg) and rebounder (8.0 rpg).
  • Freshman G Quinci Mann has recorded a team-high 10 assists this season.
  • Lehigh is averaging 77.7 ppg and has allowed 59.0 ppg through its first three games.

LAST TIME OUT… Saint Peter's is coming a 56-40 loss to Stony Brook on Nov. 15.

  • Rebecca Sparks finished with six points and four rebounds.
  • Bridget Whitfield recorded six points and one assist.
  • Hala Mostafa tallied three points and one block. 

COLLEGIATE DEBUTS… Sajanna Bethea, Samantha Meier, Alyssa Velles and Talah Hughes all made their collegiate debuts against Stony Brook on Nov. 15.

  • Bethea paced the Peacocks in her collegiate debut, scoring 13 points and grabbing eight boards.
  • Meier tallied eight points and three blocks in her collegiate debut.
  • Velles finished with a game-high four assists in her first collegiate action.
  • Hughes recorded two rebounds in 10 minutes of action.

AGAINST THE PATRIOT LEAGUE… Saint Peter's is 80-35 all-time against Patriot League schools. 

CLIMBIN' UP THE RECORD BOOKS… In her first two seasons at Saint Peter's, Hala Mostafa has amassed 71 blocks. She is currently 10th all-time in blocks and is one block shy of tying Jessica Coles (2007-11) for ninth all-time.

NEXT ON TAP… Saint Peter's returns to action on Nov. 29-30 when the team travels down the road to compete in the Seton Hall Thanksgiving Tournament.

  • The Peacocks will first play Seton Hall on Nov. 29. Saint Peter's will then play either St. Francis Brooklyn or Saint Joseph's on Nov. 30.
  • Saint Peter's opens up MAAC play on Dec. 5 with a road matchup against Niagara.

PRESEASON POLL… Saint Peter's was picked 11th in the MAAC Preseaon Coaches Poll. Marist and Quinnipiac finished tied with 112 points to be selected as preseason co-favorites. Iona, Fairfield, Niagara, Rider, Manhattan, Canisius, Monmouth, Siena and Saint Peter's rounded out the 11-team poll. 

THE SCHEDULE… Saint Peter's will play 14 games at the Yanitelli Center and 15 on the road.

  • The Peacocks have three different three-game home stands during the season.
  • Saint Peter's will play games in four states (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland).
  • During the non-conference slate, the Peacocks will face teams from the America East (Stony Brook), Big East (Seton Hall), Northeast Conference (Fairleigh Dickinson), Patriot League (Lehigh, Loyola, Lafayette, Navy) and Ivy League (Yale). 

NEW TO THE FLOCK… Saint Peter's will have six newcomers eligible to play in 2014-15.

  • Rebecca Sparks and Imani Martinez both sat out last season due to NCAA Division I transfer regulations. Sparks played one season at St. Francis (Pa.) before coming to Jersey City. Martinez played one season at Tennessee State before coming to Saint Peter's.
  • Freshmen Sajanna Bethea, Talah Hughes, Alyssa Velles and Samantha Meier join the team this season. 

FAMILIAR FACES… In addition to six newcomers, the Peacocks also return eight letterwinners from last year's team.

  • Senior G Antonia Smith is the lone senior on the team and is the team's top-returning scorer averaging 9.4 points per game. Smith scored in double-figures in 13 games last season.
  • Senior G Teresa Corchado appeared in 29 games last season, including 10 starts.
  • Junior G Bridget Whitfield averaged 3.7 points and 3.2 rebounds last season as a sophomore. She appeared in all 30 games, including 28 starts.
  • Junior F Neechelle Ingram is the team's top-returning rebounder after grabbing 3.6 boards per game last season.
  • Junior F Hala Mostafa averaged 5.5 points and 2.9 rebounds last season and was among the conference leaders in blocks per game with 1.4.
  • Sophomore G Kylie Garrett competed in 26 games last season shot a team-best 45% from three-point distance.
  • Sophomore F Kaycee Devoogd appeared in 27 games in her freshman season. She shot 85% from the free throw line last year.
  • Sophomore G Marcia Senatus averaged 4.8 points in 10 appearances for the Peacocks last season.

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY… The DeVoogd family tree continues at Saint Peter's. Kaycee DeVoogd is the daughter of Sebastiaan DeVoogd, who played on the men's basketball team. He was the starting center for the 1994-1995 MAAC championship team. 

COACHING STAFF… Pat Coyle enters her second season at the helm as Saint Peter's Women's Basketball Head Coach.
