JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi) and Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) each won two events to pace the Saint Peter's women's swimming and diving team to a 125-78 win against Manhattan and a 128-75 win against Montclair State in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) won three individual events to power the Peacocks men's swimming and diving team to a 133-92 win against the Jaspers and a 155.5-73.5 victory against the Red Hawks.
Mushtei won the 1000 free with a time of 10:46.77 and the 500 free with a time of 5:21.77 while Samardzic was victories in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.08 and the 100 back with a time of 59.28. For the men, Gomez won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.88, the 100 fly with a time of 52.16 and the 500 free with a time 4:48.44.
Along with their two individual wins, Samardzic also swam as part of a winning relay. Samardzic opened the competition by swimming the opening leg of the winning 200-medley relay (1:49.60) and was followed by Alexandria Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy), Marie Feneron (Molsheim, France/Lycee Henri Meck) and Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Catholic)
Karen Castaneda (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) won the 200 free (2:00.67) and finished second in the 500 free (5:21.77) while swimming in the victorious 400-free relay. Feneron opened the 400-free relay before Castaneda, Michelle Corpuz (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and Wuko completed the victory in the event (3:45.61).
Sison also won the 50 free (25.58) and finished second in the 100 breast (1.11.61) while Feneron won the 100 fly (59.37) and Wuko finished first in the 100 free (53.36). Corpuz placed second in the 200 IM and Jenna Carbin (Neptune, N.J./Jackson Memorial) finished third in the 100 back (1:03.76).
On the men's side, Igal Oren (Jersey City, N.J./Ort Kiryar Bialik) won the 100 free (48.31) and finished second in the 50 free (22.12) while Bence Greifenstein (Budapest, Hungary/Kerek) was first in the 100 breast (59.00) and third in the 100 fly (53.63).
Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) finished first in the 1000 free (9:55.34) and Thomas Calloni (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) place first in the 200 free (1:47.48).
Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), Greifenstein, Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American Foundation School) and Oren opened the meet with a win in the 200-medley (1:35.71) while Calloni, Diego Rueda (Bucaramanga, Colombia/School of the Future), Riepe and Eliran Epstein (Nahariya, Israel/Wester Galilee Regional) closed the competition with a victory in the 400-free relay (3:21.15).
Garcia placed second in the 200 free (1:48.29) and second in the 100 fly (52.91) while Daniel Gayetsky (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) also recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 1000 free (10:04.20) and the 500 free (4:58.72).
Dunne was second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breast (1:01.43) while Epstein was third in the 50 free (22.15) and third in the 100 free (48.74).
The Saint Peter's women's swimming and diving team returns to action at the Frank Elm Invitational on Nov. 22 while the men's swimming and diving competition will be at the H2ounds Invitational on Dec. 5.
