Hourglass Rivalry Returns To Yanitelli Center For Men's Basketball Against Monmouth In Battle Of The Birds On Sunday

opening tip... Sunday's game between Saint Peter's and Monmouth marks the 28th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1963-64 season.
• This will be the first tilt between the two teams since the Peacocks downed the Hawks 58-34 at 6 a.m. in the ESPN 24-hours of basketball marathon on Nov. 17, 2009.
• The home team has won the last seven matchups, a streak that dates back to the 2003-04 season.
• Saint Peter's leads the all-time series 19-8, but this marks the first meeting between the two teams in MAAC play after Monmouth joined the league this year.
• Saint Peter's is 2-2 under head coach John Dunne against the Hawks, including 2-0 at the Yanitelli Center. 

about the hawks... Monmouth comes into the contest 10-14 overall and 4-9 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play after falling 60-56 to Fairfield on Friday.
• Junior G Andrew Nicholas fueled the Hawks with 16 points against the Stags. The junior scored 28 points in an 83-82 win against Canisius on Jan. 19. Nicholas ranks second on the team with a 14.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
• Junior G Deon Jones added 10 points on Friday. Jones registered 20 points in the win against the Golden Griffins. The junior paces the squad with 14.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
• Freshman G Josh James ranks third on the team with 8.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. The freshman posted 15 points in the first meeting against Fairfield, a 63-60 victory on Jan. 23.
• Freshman G Justin Robinson is fourth on the team with 8.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Robinson posted 15 points in a 94-77 loss against Quinnipiac on Jan. 4. 

last time we met... Wesley Jenkins tallied 10 points and eight rebounds to lift Saint Peter's past Monmouth 58-34 on Nov. 17, 2009 in a 6 a.m. game during the ESPN basketball 24-hour marathon. Darius Conley and Steven Samuels each added nine points in the winning effort. Travis Taylor paced the Hawks with 12 points. 

quick hits on siena game... Junior F Marvin Dominique recorded three dunks in the game, including a jam with 8:44 left to give Saint Peter's the lead it would not relinquish en route to a 66-53 win against Siena on Friday night at the Yanitelli Center.
•  Dominique finished the game with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the junior's ninth double-double of the season and his first in five games. The junior had seven double-doubles in his first 13 games, but only has recorded the trick twice in his last nine tilts. Dominique leads the team with 17.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
• Junior G Desi Washington fueled all scorers on the night with 18 points against the Saints. Washington has paced the team in points seven times this season and the Peacocks are 4-3 in those contests. Saint Peter's is 12-10 with the junior is tops in scoring in his two-year career. Washington ranks second on the team with 13.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
• Freshman G Trevis Wyche added 13 points for his 10th double-figure point game in his last 13 contests. The freshman has posted double-digits in points along with five assists four times this season. Wyche is third on the team with 8.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
• Senior G Chris Burke tallied seven points and nine rebounds against Siena. Burke has registered at least seven points and five rebounds four times this year. The senior is averaging 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
• With the win, the Peacocks ended a five-game losing streak. 

hourglass rivalry comes to saint peter's... Sunday's game marks the second men's basketball game at the Yanitelli Center in the new Hourglass Rivalry.
• The Hourglass Rivalry is between Monmouth, Rider and Saint Peter's and encompasses all the sports that the three MAAC New Jersey schools compete. The rivalry gets its namesake since all three schools are about an hour away from each other.
• Rider is 10-7-1, Monmouth is 9-6 and Saint Peter's is 5-11-1 coming into this game on the year.
• The squad will play its final Hourglass Rivalry game on the hardwood at Monmouth on Feb. 22.

next on tap... Saint Peter's hits the road to head to Iona on Wednesday and Quinnipiac on Feb. 15. It will be the final time the Peacocks play consecutive road games this season.
• When Saint Peter's returns to the Yanitelli Center after the tilt against the Bobcats, the Peacocks will have three of its final four games at home starting with its second ESPN3 game of the year against Marist on Feb. 20. 

statistically speaking… Saint Peter's ranks in the Top-5 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference statistically in seven categories, including leading the circuit in scoring defense (67.5).
• The Peacocks also rank third in field goal defense (.421), third in blocks (4.1), third in defensive rebound percentage (.691), fourth in free throw percentage (.711), fourth in 3-point field goal defense (.339) and fifth in rebounding defense (35.5).
• Junior Marvin Dominique ranks third in the league in rebounding (8.8), third in offensive rebounds (3.2), third in defensive rebounds (5.6), sixth in scoring (17.1) and eighth in minutes played (33.8).
• Freshman Trevis Wyche ranks fifth in assists (4.0), fifth in assist to turnover ratio (1.6) and 10th in steals (1.3).
• Freshman Quadir Welton ranks seventh in blocked shots (1.2) and ninth in offensive rebounds (2.5) while junior Desi Washington is seventh in free throw percentage (.824) and 10th in 3-pointers made (2.0). 

what's trending... Saint Peter's ended a five-game losing streak, won the battle of the boards and went into the locker room with the lead for the first time in five games in its win against Siena.
• Junior Marvin Dominique notched his first double-double in five games. The junior also recorded his first block in seven games. Dominique has posted double figures in points in 20 of 22 games and has grabbed at least five rebounds 20 times this season.
• Junior Desi Washington has registered double digits in points in 13 of his last 15 games and has registered at least 15 points six times in that stretch.
• Freshman Trevis Wyche has scored double figures in 10 of his last 13 games.
• Freshman Quadir Welton has recorded a block in 10 of his last 12 games to post 20 of his team-high 27 rejections in his last 12 contests. The freshman had a career-best five blocks against Iona on Jan. 26.
• Senior Chris Burke has not scored double figures in his last five games and is averaging 4.2 points per game in that span. The senior averaged 11.6 points per game in the five games prior to this current stretch to help Saint Peter's win three-straight games.
• Junior Jamel Fields has posted 76 of his 96 points this season in games when he plays at least 18 minutes and is averaging 8.4 points per game in those nine contests. The junior is averaging 1.8 points per game in the 11 games when he plays 17 minutes or less.
• Sophomore Elias Desport has scored in 12 of his last 13 games, including a career-high eight points against Rider on Jan. 16. The sophomore also scored at least five points in three of his last seven games.
• Junior Tyler Gaskins has played at least 10 minutes in 15 of the 19 games played, including five games with at least 20 minutes.
• Freshman Howard Sellars has scored in eight of the nine games he has played at least seven minutes. The freshman has played 40 minutes in his last three games and has posted 10 points in that span.
• Junior Kris Rolle has posted 17 of his 22 points and 15 of his 35 rebounds in his last four games, including a career-high nine points and nine rebounds against Siena on Jan. 23. The junior recorded 14 of his 22 points against the Saints this season. 

the dominique affect... Junior Marvin Dominique has paced the team in scoring 12 times this season, but the squad is just 2-10 in the games when Dominique has the most points in a game for the Peacocks.
• The Peacocks are 5-4 when someone other than Dominique has the game high in points. Saint Peter's is 4-3 when junior Desi Washington leads the team in points and 1-1 when senior Chris Burke or junior Jamel Fields is the squad's top scorer.
• Saint Peter's is 1-1 in the two games Dominique has not reached double figures this season. 

home sweet home... Junior Marvin Dominique is averaging 18.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in eight tilts at the Yanitelli Center.
• The junior has found double digits in points in all nine home games, including three 20-point performances and three double-doubles. Dominique had 17 points and 12 rebounds in his last home game.
• Junior Desi Washington is averaging 13.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game at home this season. Washington has posted double-digits in points in his last nine games in Jersey City and registered 18 points in his last home tilt.

block party... Freshman Quadir Welton notched a career-high five blocks against Iona on Jan. 26.
• It marked the second time this season a Saint Peter's player posted five blocks in a game after junior Marvin Dominique recorded five rejections against Quinnipiac on Jan. 12.
• Dominique also has a four-block game on his resume this season along with senior Chris Burke. Welton also has a recorded three blocks in a game three times with Dominique recording one.
• Welton leads the team with 27 blocks while Dominique ranks second with 22 rejections and Burke is third with 16 blocks. 

counting on the newbies... The Peacocks have seven newcomers on the roster and they have accounted for 883 of the squad's 1401 points this season.
• The newcomers have accounted for 64 percent of the offense this season led by junior Marvin Dominique and his 17.1 points per game.
• Junior Desi Washington has 289 of the 518 points scored by the returning players while senior Chris Burke has 139 points this season.
• Washington and Burke are the only returners that have posted double figures in points this season while Dominique and fellow juniors Jamel Fields and Tyler Gaskins and freshmen Trevis Wyche and Quadir Welton each have at least one 10+ point contest this season.

dominate and unique equals marvin dominique... Junior Marvin Dominique has scored double figures in 20 of his 22 games in a Peacocks uniform.
• The junior has recorded one 30-point game, seven 20-point performances and nine double-doubles in his first 21 games of his initial season in Jersey City.
• Dominique  recorded a career-high 31 points along with 14 rebounds against LIU Brooklyn in the season opener on Nov. 9.
• The junior hauled in a career-best 16 rebounds against Niagara on Dec. 8.
• Dominique did not score more than 10 points in a game or post more than 11 rebounds in a contest in 40 tilts with the Rams.
• After not recording a double-double with Fordham, Dominique has eight double-doubles this season. 

it matters where we play... Senior Chris Burke sure loves home cooking while freshman Quadir Welton might just be a road warrior.
• Burke has posted three of his four double-digit point performances this season at the Yanitelli Center. Highlighting these three games was when he tied his career high of 18 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 12 and when he posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds against Hampton on Nov. 12. The senior notched double digits on the road for the first time this season with 12 points at Marist on Jan. 20.
• Welton has all three of double-figure point performances on the road. The freshman burst onto the scene with 16 points and 11 rebounds at the Barclays Center against LIU Brooklyn on Nov. 9 also had 10 points against Seton Hall at the Prudential Center on Dec. 14 to highlight his three road game top performances. 

washington clutch shooting... Junior Desi Washington has hit a game-winning 3-pointer in the waning seconds of a game twice this season.
• The junior hit a trey with 3.3 seconds left to lift Saint Peter's past Seton Hall 83-80 in overtime on Dec. 14. Washington finished the game with a career-high 34 points against the Pirates.
• He then hit a triple as time expired to give the Peacocks a 56-55 win against Fairfield on Jan. 8.
• The 3-pointer was the No. 8 play on SportsCenter on the early edition and then moved to the ninth spot in the late show.
• Washington has made a team-best 43 from behind the arc this season. 

take me home tonight... Junior Jamel Fields has posted his three-best point performances in a familiar setting.
• The junior notched his season-high at Fairfield against his former team. Fields played two years for the Stags.
• Fields posted 12 points against Binghamton at his new home the Yanitelli Center.
• He has scored nine points three times this season. The Albany, native recorded nine points in his first home game of the season against Hampton and tallied nine points at Siena in Albany on Jan. 23.

playing with the big boys... While the 83-80 overtime win against Seton Hall on Dec. 14 ended a 17-game losing streak against the Pirates, defeating teams from the bigger conferences is no stranger to the Peacocks.
• It was the third time under head coach John Dunne Saint Peter's has defeated a BCS school after downing Alabama 50-49 in 2010-11 and Rutgers 56-52 in 2012-13.
• The Peacocks have beaten a Big East school in each of the last two seasons.
• Saint Peter's also has wins against Boston College, Georgetown, UMass and Michigan State on their resume in team history, but the biggest win in program history might have been when the squad downed top-ranked Duke 100-71 in the 1967-68 NIT to reach the "Final Four" of that tournament. 

washington honored... Junior Desi Washington was named the MAAC Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 9-15.
• It was the junior's first MAAC weekly honor after being named to the All-MAAC Preseason second team prior to the start of the season.
• Washington was also named the Corvias ECAC Metro/Upstate Player of the Week, College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week and College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week.
• The junior earned the honor after scoring a career-high 34 points, including the decisive 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left in an 83-80 overtime win against Seton Hall to end a 17-game losing streak against the Pirates.
•  Washington was honored four times as a member of the Delaware State men's basketball team when he was awarded the MEAC Rookie of the Week in 2010-11 four times.
• Washington is the fourth player to earn the league honor under head coach John Dunne and the first since Ryan Bacon earned the recognition on Jan. 31, 2011. 

what's your number... Saint Peter's has reached 80 points twice this season after falling 87-80 to LIU Brooklyn on Nov. 9 and defeating Seton Hall 83-80 in overtime on Dec. 14.
• Saint Peter's has reached 80 points in a game eight times in the eight seasons under head coach John Dunne and the squad is 5-3 in those games.
• The team has scored at least 70 points in a contest 36 times under Dunne and the Peacocks are 22-14 when it reaches that mark.
• Saint Peter's is also 1-0 when the team scores 90 points in a game.

• Junior Marvin Dominique also reached 30 points this season when he poured in a career-high 31 points against LIU Brooklyn on Nov. 9.
• Wesley Jenkins is the only other player to post 30 points in a game when he reached the total twice.
• The Peacocks are 4-5 under Dunne when a player registers 20 points in a contest.
• Dominique has scored 20 points or more eight times this season and Washington has done it twice.
• Saint Peter's is 35-38 when a player has a 20-point performance under Dunne. 

capital gains... Junior Desi Washington has posted double figures in 36 of the 52 games, including 10 20-point performance, since he joined the team at the start of last season.
• Washington has reached double figures 14 times this year, including a career-high 34 points against Seton Hall on Dec. 14.
• The Peacocks are 8-2 when Washington reaches 20 points in a game.
• Washington played his freshman campaign at Delaware State in 2010-11 and scored 394 points with the Hornets.
• The junior has recorded 728 points in his two seasons in Jersey City and reached 1,000 points for his career in the game against Canisius on Jan. 4.
• Washington has 1,122 points for his career.

• Freshman Quadir Welton registered a career-high 16 points and 11 rebounds against the Blackbirds.
• Junior Tyler Gaskins recorded a personal-best 13 points against Boston University on Nov. 30.
• Junior Desi Washington posted a career-best 34 points against Seton Hall on Dec. 14.
• Freshman Trevis Wyche recorded a career-best 16 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 12.
• Sophomore Elias Desport notched a career-best eight points against Rider on Jan. 16.
• Junior Kris Rolle registered a career-best nine points and nine rebounds against Siena on Jan. 23. 

double your pleasure... Senior Chris Burke, juniors Marvin Dominique and Markese Tucker and freshman Quadir Welton are the only players on the roster that have recorded a double-double in their career.
• Dominique has nine double-doubles this season.
• Welton recorded 16 points against 11 rebounds against the Blackbirds on Nov. 9.
• Burke notched his first career double-double after posting 18 points and 10 rebounds against Iona last season. The senior notched his second career trick with 13 points and 11 rebounds against Hampton on Nov. 12.
• Tucker recorded the trick in his freshman campaign. 

adams leaves the program... Junior Vic Adams decided to leave the team at the end of the first semester.
• Adams averaged 5.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in five games this season.

preseason poll... Saint Peter's was picked to finish ninth according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Manhattan, who advanced to the MAAC Championship Game last season, has been tabbed as the preseason favorite while the 2012-13 MAAC Tournament Champion Iona Gaels finished second in the poll. Canisius and Rider finished 3-4 while Marist, Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Niagara, Saint Peter's, Siena and Monmouth rounded out the 11-team poll. Quinnipac and Monmouth will compete in MAAC play for the first time after playing in the Northeast Conference last season. 

washington preseason honor... Junior Desi Washington was named to the All-MAAC Preseason third team. Washington, a 6-2 guard, was the Peacocks leading scorer last season after averaging 14.6 points per game and added 3.4 rebounds per game. Washington also led the team in minutes per game (34.4), 3-point field goal percentage (37.0) and free throw percentage (88.0). The transfer from Delaware State made the most of his first season in Jersey City after registering double figures in 20 of the 30 games played. Washington reached 20 points in a game seven times in 2012-13, including a career-high 32 points against Boston University on Dec. 1. Saint Peter's was 5-2 in games the junior recorded a 20-point performance last season.

the schedule... Saint Peter's will play 13 games at the Yanitelli Center and 16 on the road.
• Prior to the New Year, the Peacocks will play eight of its 11 games on the road.
• The squad will go 32 days in between home games. Saint Peter's will host Binghamton on Nov. 26 and then embark on a five-game road trip before returning home to host Cornell on Dec. 28. It will be the team's first five-game road trip since starting the 2005-06 season with five-straight road games.
• In addition, Saint Peter's will play games in five states this season (New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Ohio).
• During the non-conference slate, the Peacocks will face teams from the America East (Binghamton, Hartford), Big East (Seton Hall), Ivy League (Cornell), Mid-America Conference (Kent State), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (Hampton), Northeast Conference (LIU Brooklyn, Fairleigh Dickinson) and Patriot League (Boston University). 

hi, how are you doing... Saint Peter's has eight newcomers eligible to play in 2013-14.
• Juniors Marvin Dominique and Jamel Fields each sat out last season due to NCAA Division I transfer regulation. Fields played his first two seasons at Fairfield while Dominique played two years at Fordham before coming to Jersey City. Fields has a 20-point game on his career resume while Dominique posted one 10-point performance and four double-figure rebound games with the Rams.
• Juniors Tyler Gaskins and Kris Rolle join the team after playing two seasons at community college while freshmen Howard Sellers, Trevis Wyche and Quadir Welton also join the team this season. 

about the coach... Head coach John Dunne is in his eighth season at Saint Peter's.
• He led the team to the 2011 MAAC Tournament title and berth in the NCAA Tournament.
• Dunne has coached five 1,000-point scorers, three All-MAAC second-team selections, four All-MAAC third-team honorees, two MAAC All-Rookie selections, a MAAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, three MAAC All-Tournament selections and an All-MAAC Academic honoree. 

a different looking staff for dunne... Head coach John Dunne has added Matt Henry and Serge Clement to his staff in 2013-14.
• Henry comes to Saint Peter's after serving as an assistant coach and the active head coach for the final four games of the 2011-12 season at Mount St. Mary's. The Mount was 2-2 in the four games he served as active head coach.
• Clement comes to Jersey City after serving as an assistant coach at Adelphi for the last two seasons.
