Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's softball team suffered a pair of losses in its 2014 Jaroschak Field debut against Wagner on Thursday.
In the first game, Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) paced the Peacocks with two hits. Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay), Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) each recorded a hit.
Hannah Gilbert had a strong performance, tallying five RBIs in the opening slate against Saint Peter's.
Wagner got on the board in the first inning, scoring three runs off a bases-clearing double by Gilbert to give the Seahawks a 3-0 advantage. In the fourth inning, Wagner scored seven runs, fueled by RBIs from Gilbert, Taylor Beeson, Kelsey Parker and Brenda Bott to take the first game, 10-0.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Peacocks got its offense going early. Following a three-run first inning from Wagner, Saint Peter's countered with four runs, fueled by a RBI-double from D'Amato to knot the game at three. With D'Amato on base, Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) hit a RBI-single to give Saint Peter's a 4-3 advantage.
The Seahawks responded with an offensive surge in the third inning, scoring eight runs. Following back-to-back hits, Beth Lewis hit a three-run homer to take a 6-4 lead. A few batters later, Beeson hit a three-run blast to left field to expand the lead. Following a walk, Abigail Beasley hit a two-run homerun to centerfield to give Wagner an 11-4 lead.
Wagner scored four runs in the fourth and five more runs in the fifth inning to win 20-4, and complete the doubleheader sweep.
With the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 4-20 overall this season, while Wagner improves to 13-13.
The squad returns to action on Apr. 5, when the team welcomes Quinnipiac University to Jaroschak Field for a MAAC doubleheader. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
