JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Going into overtime is always nerve-racking with each team looking for the elusive goiden goal. The Saint Peter's men's soccer team went into overtime seven times, but it was freshman's Louis Mobbs (Hull, England/Sydney Smith) elusive tally in the 107th minute to propel the Peacocks past Bryant on Sept. 27 that takes a bite into the No. 12 Moment on our Top-15 Moments Countdown. Thanks to Athletic Communications intern Kristi Kaneyuki the goal became the first video highlight for Saint Peter's in 2013-14.
Marcel Maddee' (Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elisabeth) served in a corner kick to the head of Michael Broncati (Petropolis, Brazil / Norwalk [Conn.]) before Broncati headed the ball to Mobbs, who headed the ball into the netting at the 106:15 mark for the game-winning goal.
The game was a battle on the pitch from the start, but Saint Peter's scored with less than three minutes left in the second overtime period to earn the win in the first-ever meeting against Bryant.
The Bulldogs outshot the Peacocks 10-9 in the match, but only had two shots in the final 30 minutes of the match while all of Suarez's six saves came in the first 75 minutes of the contest.
Bryant's Joseph Dimauro missed wide in the 87th minute and Marco Addonizio had his shot blocked by the Saint Peter's defense in the first overtime period in the 97th minute for its only scoring chances in the final 30 minutes.
Saint Peter's did not have a shot in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but kept Chris Knaub on his toes in the overtime periods. Maddee' had a shot stopped by Knaub in the 93rd minute and then AJ Johnson (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) had a chance thwarted by Knaub in the 94th minute. Broncati missed wide in the waning seconds of the first overtime session before Mobbs helped send the Peacock fans home happy when he headed the ball into the twine in the 107th minute.
It was Mobbs second goal of the season after finding the twine in a 2-1 victory against George Washington on Sept. 18. Broncati notched his first collegiate point on the play while Maddee' added to his team-leading assist total with his fourth helper of the year and paces the team with two goals and four assists for eight points.
Carlos Suarez (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/St. Benedict's Prep) returned after missing the last two games to record his second shutout of the season for the Peacocks after making six saves on the afternoon.
Maddee paced Saint Peter's on the year with four goals and seven assists for 15 points. Mobbs was second on the team with three goals for six points.
The men's soccer team went into overtime seven times on the year, going 1-1-5 in those contests. The squad finished 4-9-5 overall and 2-5-3 in league play.
